so warlords can force you to fight for their cowardly lives and lie to you about rewards after you die uselessly so someone else can be rich.

We are living in an afterlife right now, which works as a continuation of our path as a spirit. Our spirits will lose bodies over and over again, and still want another one. You think it is hard to lose weight or to change well ingrained habits. The spirit is very attached to it body and the comforts it provides. At night when you are asleep, your spirit can leave the body, and travel in the spiritual realm, connecting with other spirits of the living and of the dead, But even though the spirit could decide, not to return before you wake, it always does because it really likes this body it has. It also likes to relate to spirits that are connected to a human form. You might as well become good at bringing about positive result in this world, since you will need the same skill in the next life, when you are born again and start over.

We are all part of what we call the plan of eternal progression. We all lived with God before we were born. He gave us His plan to come to earth, to gain our mortal bodies, to live by faith and learn by exercising our agency to choose between right and wrong, good and evil. When we complete our mortal trial, we move on to the next phase of life where we continue to learn and overcome our mistakes to become more like our Heavenly Father. Along the way, we have to overcome certain hurdles, like repenting of our mistakes and learning to obey God's teachings and commandments. Thus, our positions in the next life will be partially dependent upon the choices we make in this life. In the same manner, the positions we enjoy in this life were partially dependent upon the choices we made in the premortal existence. Thus, our purpose is to fulfill God's purpose which is to bring us back into His presence. We do that by becoming like Him. We won't accomplish that completely here in mortality but can achieve that state of being when we include the postmortal existence. Then we become heirs with Christ in all that the Father has. That is a glorious promise. It is worth striving to achieve.

The purpose of the afterlife is to serve as a "proverb"ial carrot designed to keep the poor in line so that they continue to serve their masters in poverty and hunger, to prevent uprising and revolution by the promise of an eternal reward that does not exist.
The afterlife is an invention of man and a component of the religious invention that was designed by men for the soul purpose of controlling the masses.

the afterlife is our life
this life is just a break in between
so the real question should be what is the purpose of this life
but I believe that the before life , this life , the after life ... is like kindergarten , junior school and high school
just different places to learn

It's a way of comforting the mind about our undeniable fate: death. Nobody wants to believe we just rot in the ground and that's it. I believe we just rot, even though it's unsettling. I hope I'm wrong though.

You don't really get to choose, you know? It's one of those things..
A spirit--which is a ghost--or paranormal--whichever you'd like to say, is an unhappy spirit. Basically, it's an unnatural death. Say a person dies, but they die in a car accident, they would become a Ghost. Or, say a man dies a couple years after his wife, he becomes a Ghost until he finds his dead wife.
All it is, is a person who died an unnatural death.
A unhappy death.
They're nothing to be scared of.
But they are real.

To keep you conscious forever against your will; never be able to rest; be with your loved ones FOREVER (even if you hate them); have no choice in the matter from the moment you're conceived whether you live past birth or are aborted (naturally or not).

what is the purpose of this life?
lets not get ahead of ourselves. we have no clue what we are doing here. why are we supposing what a theoretical 2nd life is for if we can't understand what the 1st life we're living is for.
