Technically it is against the Catholic religion because you would be giving an object more power than God I believe. I went to Catholic school for twelve years of my life and everyone I know has tried a Ouija board at some point in their life. So as to the going to Hell part, it must be a crowded place if something like playing game will land you there. BUT I never actually tried it because my friends had bad experiences, like saw a face in the corner and stuff. I'm a scaredy cat.

it depends on how seriously you take you take your religion.
By using the Ouija board, you are exposing your mind to everthing in the universe, thats the reason you can communicate with dead people while using it, but if a demon happens to notice, that is an easy way to get possesed. And, no. You probably wont go to hell just because of using the Ouija board. You dont get into heaven or hell only based on your actions on earth.

Ur Q. is typical for catholics, especially kids. This is exactly why this Cult Religion is So Dangerous! It Fails to EDUCATE its' people in Bible Doctrine preferring to overlook / allow "Common Practices" in different Cultures to creep into it's Dogma!!! Scripture says that "a little leaven, leavens the whole loaf." meaning that just a little bit of yeast can affect the whole loaf of bread. So too it is with Sin & False Bible Doctrine! By now in Ur catholic life, U should not have to ask a Q. like this, knowing that God specifically prohibits fortune telling, mediums, necromancers etc. and U should also know that the Only way U go to Hell is by Not Accepting Christ as Ur Savior!!! Honey, do Urself an Eternal Favor, Leave the catholic church & the Ouija Board & start seeking Christ. John

Hi there,
Please, whatever you do, don't purchase that game and if you have, get rid of it. When I was a bit younger, my friends and I got one, all in good fun. We didn't think it could be harmful. I mean, its a board game that you can buy at Toys R Us so how bad can it be, right? Well, it wasn't until later that I found out why it was bad. This was when I actually asked a priest to explain it to me. Once he did, I felt so bad for ever having such a game. Ok so first, Catholics do not believe there are dead spirits such as ghosts or our grandparents souls roaming around on earth. However, there are demons..evil basically...and that is what you are communicating with. Right there, that should tell you that nothing good could possible come of it. I still remember some freaky things that happened when my friends and I played it..and to think we were communicating with something so evil disgusts me. So, secondly...the reason a Ouija board, as well as a homemade ouija board, psychics, fortune tellers, numerology, astrology etc etc etc...the reason they are all bad is because you are putting your trust somewhere else besides God. God the Father knows us better than we know ourselves. He knows what's good for us and what isn't. Sometimes though, when things aren't going so great, we start to forget that, and we stop trusting in God, when really, our trust should be the greatest. So, we start looking elsewhere. Sometimes we simply stop looking to God for the answers...other times, we consult other things, such as the ouija board and such things. When we put our faith and our trust somewhere else, we open up our minds and our souls to something else that is not God. We are putting ourselves at risk to be taken by something evil. Now, I am not saying that you will get possessed if you play this game, BUT, you are putting yourself at a much higher risk by putting your hopes and trust and faith in something so evil. Not only that, it deeply saddens God, the one who loves us best, to see us, His children, looking elsewhere for answers rather than trusting in Him during hard times.
Perhaps you guys just want to play it for fun. Please, just don't do this either. Nothing good can come from it. Evil does exist and it would love for somebody to open up their soul to it.
I, myself, have done all of those things...psychics, ouija board, astrology, numerology, tarot etc etc etc. Even though I was only a teenager and didn't realize the depth of what I was doing, I really do regret it. There is a reason God does not want you to know certain things ahead of time. Just trust in Him and believe in His ways and His timing. Put all of your faith and your trust in it. He is the Father who loves you and knows you best...and He will always give you the answers you need...maybe not at the time you want them...but always at the RIGHT time.
With love and peace in Christ

It is probably not a mortal sin but playing around with divination is wrong.
Catholic Church teaches:
God can reveal the future to his prophets or to other saints. Still, a sound Christian attitude consists in putting oneself confidently into the hands of Providence for whatever concerns the future, and giving up all unhealthy curiosity about it.
All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to "unveil" the future.
Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers.
They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone.
For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, sections 2115 and following: http://www.nccbuscc.org/catechism/text/pt3sect2chpt1.htm#2115
With love in Christ.

It's pronounced "wee ja". It ends with an A. It's from the French and German words for "yes".
It probably is against Catholicism (C of E wouldn't give a crap) but what the hell, it's bollocks.

Catholics are cautioned to avoid such things, because they have been proved to be hazardous to our spiritual health.
It comes under the same category as consulting mediums and fortune tellers, playing with fire, or juggling butcher knives.
Catholics are always wise to guard their souls, by avoiding the "near occasion" of sin.

No no no and NO!!!!! Why should it. It isn't evil. I did it a couple of times when I was little and nothing happend to me(besides talking to an evil spirit [which was awsome :D]).And whoever says it's evil is just as stupid as a lemming jumping off a cliff.
P.S: I'm Catholic but am thinking to convert to Wiccan when I'm 18. :D
