... and the first man, Adam, had neither a mother or father in the tradition sense. And Jesus had a virgin mother and no early father. Maybe it's just me, but it sounds odd.

How many people out there (mormon, or ex-mormon) have been sexually abused or molested, reported it to their bishop, and he did not report it to the authorities as he is required by law to do?

Are you sad that Ramadan is over? I am. The days flew by so quickly, it seemed like only 1 week, not 1 month.
What are your plans for Eid Day?
I hope you all have a great day InshaAllah.

I was just giving this some thought: In what way are Christianity and science similar and how does this impact on the morality of its "followers"?

Both Christianity and scientists (ok, call them atheists) have set up a perfect system, an ideal... to which each is asked to strive for. In the case of Christianity, the truth and moral perfection is Jesus. In the case of science, it's also truth and perfection - we call science and mathematics.

And in both cases, perfection is humanly unatainable. So, how are they different and how does this impact on Christians and atheists? Christianity set up a system of punishment and humiliation for those that disobey its laws. So does science. It's called the scientific method which by its nature was designed to be self-correcting, but there is no punishment involved (perhaps there is some shame in getting it wrong) but most scientists understand "that's how the system works".

What do you think?

Ok, I asked a question earlier about a religion that doesn't judge but apparently it is to much to ask of some, not all, to let God be God and not think ourselves as all knowing with the only truth. So, I will ask this. Are there teachings out there that teach how important it is to love and respect eachother, to care for and help others, that it only hurts ourselves and others to lie, cheat, steal, and knowingly cause harm? Maybe it is not a religion I am looking for but I feel I need some direction, suggestions.

Hot on the heels of my last question. Personally I do not particularly see a contradiction between believing that Jesus is God incarnate and believing that the nativity stories are a legend about the (unknown) origins of a great man. The fact that the nativity stories of Matthew and Luke differ more than they agree tends to encourage me to believe that they are legend.

reasons why?

I catch it worse whenever I say that one of my reasons for not wanting children is that I don't have patience with them. I KNOW I'D BE A HORRIBLE MOTHER. TRUST! I KNOW THIS!

People launch into the whole "what kind of person can't tolerate children" routine and tell me that I could find the patience if I really wanted to. They continue by saying that people like me are the types who abuse and kill innocent children. Blah, blah, blah.

I don't understand. I've always felt that I'm doing the right thing by not subjecting children to my impatience. I don't want to mistreat children. Why would people accuse me of this when it's one of the very reasons why I don't want any? I accept that, for whatever reasons, I can't tolerate children. Don't you think that's exercising good judgment on my part?

When you're feeling blue, down, nostalgic, etc., which foods give you comfort?

I make Mama's macaroni and cheese. It's custardy, not saucy. You can cut it into squares if you want.
It always reminds me of mama.

My twin used to make homemade vegetable soup. That's another one.

Homemade "cheese straws" are something else. There is nothing better. No bakery comes close to the ones I make (my great grandmama's recipe.)

I've been reading some of the history of Islam and teachings in the Koran and find some things confusing.
In the beginning Mohamed was told to tolerate the unbelievers.
Later he was told "O Prophet, strive hard against unbelievers and be firm against them." Sura 9:73 and to kill the infidels where he found them, etc.
I know many Muslims are trying to live down the terrorist image acquired through fundamentalists.
But what do you do with this kind of thing?
When the Koran teaches two opposite things, do you just choose the one you like best?
Or go with the last one, as being the final revelation or a sort of amendment?
Or what do you do?
Can you explain? Thanks
