... and the first man, Adam, had neither a mother or father in the tradition sense. And Jesus had a virgin mother and no early father. Maybe it's just me, but it sounds odd.

"Do as I say, not as I do" has always been one of the Abrahamic god's primary rules.

Lead by fear, not by example. If we followed his example, we'd all have to be genocidal maniacs.

Strange how atheist's ask questions about what they don't believe in.Then they think they know more about things then the people in the faith .If you are searching then read the bible and maybe go to a church service and get some good ans's But guess what if you didn't have a mother or father you wouldn't be able to ask .So better appreciate what you have

God set up his laws so we could live in peace if we follow.

Every person born on this planet had a mother and father. God knows that obeying parents is essential in growth.

Children need to learn early that there is consequence for wrong behavior. That is the problem with today's world. NO FEAR of God.

so using a foolish arguement (Psalm 14:1) to try to prove your point didnt work. All that are and have been born here have parents.

I feel sorry for yours if you dont believe it.

It's the first commandment with promise--that thy days may be long upon the earth...no other commandment has a promise of any kind... No other gods before me--no promise. Thou shalt not covet---no promise...etc...
If we don't respect our parents, who will we respect? Kids who don't respect Mom and Dad don't respect teachers, police officers, or anyone else in authority. This creates chaos. God is not the author of confusion.
Honor thy father and thy mother is matter of order. Obey your parents and respect them for their position. They aren't always right, but if you become a parent, you won't always be right either. You can only do your best.
How is order "odd"? The earth spins on its axis. The planets follow a pattern in the skies. The seasons come and go on a continue cycle. We don't skip seasons. Day and night and night and day every day all the time... Order. order. order. Clockwork precision planned by the Almighty.

well um... the 10 commandments were made after Adam. & Jesus probably did honor his father and mother. I mean even if he was god son he still probably honored his early father and mother

Why is that ironic? it's acknowledged that your average person and people of this world wont be born of miraculous birth.
So, when the Commandment was revealed, it was expected of every person to follow it.

I mean obviously he wouldnt've written on the tablet
"Honour thy mother and thy father ON THE CONDITION OF IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A FATHER BECAUSE HE DIED " etc. etc. etc.... know what i mean ? It's general and up to the persons common sense to create those sorts of exceptions.

That's really odd. It's just like the baby daddy that goes to church but won't pay his child support. Or the baby mama who disappears to go on a meth binge and abandons her kids. Why doesn't God make them be good parents?

It says honor, but what about respect and obey? Apparently all you have to do is honor them. High five, a trophy, obeisance maybe? ;)
