Most all translations are good but not perfect.

One example fron the English Translation of the Quran----- "do not take the Jews and Christians as your friends (auliya)".

The arabic word AULIYA is used to mean protector or absolute confidential guardian of ones property and family if you died.

The translation "friend" doesnt translate well and in fact has created confusion.

There is no prohibition for taking the Christians and Jews for friends.

In Islam Muslim men can MARRY amongst the Christians and Jews so obviously marriage is stronger than friendship.

This verse pertains to taking a "fast friend" and a fellow person of ones faith to be appointed as an auliya or guardian over ones estate, family etc so that Islamic laws are carried out for the funeral and inheritance etc.

Always going back to the original Arabic meaning is very important for English readers of the Quran.

Also, studying the context of why each verse came down will answer a mulititude of questions concerning the verses of war and self defense.

He called himself a 'Radical Atheist' not because he believed that God did not exist, but because he was CONVINCED that he didn't. So, when people ask me what I 'believe' I tend to shun that word in favour of Adams'. He was also a good friend of Richard Dawkins - he read at Adams' secular funeral - and a deep thinker with regards to the godless universe.

His book the Salmon of Doubt (published posthumously) features many interesting articles on Atheism, including an interview with American Atheists, a fascinating lecture about the 'four ages of sand', and nuggets on evolution. I urge you to get a copy if you're interested in this field.

I see them as similar to the shaker religious sect that once inhabited southern Kentucky. The shakers did not believe in sex so after one generation they all died out. If these fanatics really are devout they should be running out of lunatics to run the religion. I am sure they will burn in hell.

Do Americans really leave their shoes on when they go inside someone's house, or is that just on tv? (That seems awfully dirty.) I've heard some people say they have that as a rule in their homes, like it's not just an obvious thing to do.

Look at the universe. Look at how complex life is. Look at out of body experiences and miracles that happen everyday. Look at how incredibly complicated the eye is. Life is so improbable that it had to have come from a creator. No other explanation is satisfactory. The existence of a creator is self-evident.

Agree?

.....And where in the Bible does it mention the necessity of having a Pope ? I know that Catholics believe that St Peter was the first Pope and that all subsequent Popes are descended - Oooops, sorry - I meant elected by the vulnerable, old, sin-ridden Cardinals of the Vatican Council. Odd though, because St Peter wasn't a Catholic was he ? Hmmm.... sounds amazingly like Politics to me...!!

Tell me one thing that happened in your life that made you believe that there is something out there no one can explain. I want to hear your stories. Whether it be a tiny little thing or something that changed your life completely.

It doesn't have to be necessarily God or anything to do with religion, but please be respectful with your post and to other people's post. Everybody is allowed whether you are Christian, Catholic, Atheist, Islam etc. I want everybody who post to just be plain human beings and not divided by religion, race whatsoever.

May your stories bring inspiration, courage, strength and hope to those who need it.

I met a guy in the gay bar the other day who said that he was in the military. So, I asked him (jokingly), "so, you lyed on your application?" He said he didnt because he wasnt gay at the time. He claims he "became" gay. I have one friend that says she used to be attracted to guys but is now lesbian. What do you think about this? I don't think someone can "become" gay and has to be born that way. Maybe that is gay by choice or a need of attention?

Is it right to be attracted to other cultures?
I keep seeing Muslim women with the head scarf, the Hejib i think it's called. A friend told me that women are forced to wear it because in old days in Arabia the women would sometimes not wear bras and show off thier bosoms to get rich men to adopt them into thier harem.

Anyway, i see these women on the street where i live in East London, and they just do it for me. I think about the forbiddeness and the wrath of God if I am to get my Christian hands on the fruits of Allah. I smell their underarm smelly smells and I imagine how much stronger it would be without the tent over them. I just want them.

My girlfriend is so judgemental & wouldn't understand my feelings. She hates foreigners. Mayeb i should ask her to dress this way at home for me as i know it would bring us closer. But i don't want to lose her because her dad died in the war and she starts blaming all dark people.

What shall i do?

Sometimes when I pray to God, he answers my prays! (Thank You Jesus)

Sometimes when I pray to God, he does not answer them. But that means that all I have to do is wait... Good things come to those that wait. (Thank You Jesus)

Sometimes when I pray God he says No. But that means that either it is not apart of the "Bigger Picture" or I`am being selfish.
(Thank you Jesus, you have my best interest at heart)

Man I wish they had a God casino. If prayers were like bets I would be a rich man by now. We can`t lose with prayer!

As you can see it`s a scam you are delusional. You would get the same results from praying to a milk carton.

that a mass murderer/serial rapist should burn in hell forever...

Imagine unbearable pain searing through every nerve fiber you have in your body. Imagine your eyes melting and oozing out from your sockets. Sharp instruments piercing various parts of your body sending it to convulsions .The blood in your veins literally boiling. Your brain will be fried. Despite these extreme tortures, there will be no death, in the annihilation sense...

NOBODY, and I said NOBODY should deserve this kind of torture (we are not talking about hours, weeks, months but for ETERNITY!!!! )...

a person with unforgivable sins should be chained, shackled and imprisoned for life....Given just enough food for surviving, reliving the utmost misery a human can conceive...until he realizes he's folly, his misdeed...even when there’s no turning back for him. His soul would finally rest in peace after passing away. Hell is never a solution…

So why does God even let hell even exist in the first place?

I am just wondering if someone after baptism, broke all the commandments regularly, he prayed and repented before his death, but where will he be after death : Heaven or Hell?

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of baptism which the Protestants believe?

At least for Catholicism, holy communion, regular confession and penance are much needed to restore a soul (state of grace) back to God.

I feel we are all here to somehow get along, and everyone needs to keep their social skills regardless of how we are supposed to find our faith. I disdain Bible thumpers as much as hateful anti-Christian posters. How do you feel about this?

Let's say that a woman was an alcoholic. If her husband continued to bring alcohol home and always made it visible to his wife, most people would call that a little a**holish. However, when god does that, he loves us. I know that most people will say that the devil, not god, tempts us, but come on people. God created everything. Why can't he uncreate?

he comes to work everyday but our offices are far away. I wanna see him and say hi to him. So, I thought of calling him first when he comes to his office and then tell him I'd like to pass by his office before I go home, just to make sure he's ok.
Is it ok or would he get me wrong? I mean there's nothing there, we just used to work together and recently we both got busy with other stuff..so what do you think..is it ok?
