I'd like to thank a woman because she helped to find a job. I'm a bit shy though to do it as I don't know her very good. Don't know if it is fine to buy some good chocolate or a wine ??? What would you do and how to present it ??? What to say?

thanks for your advice

Does she like chocolate? If there is any way you can find this out, do so. If she does like chocolate, then a box of nice chocolates is very acceptable. If she does not like chocolates, or drink wine (many people don't), perhaps a bunch of flowers would be suitable?

Other gift ideas which are popular are silver photo frames, book vouchers and music vouchers.

You could also send a thank you card, but a handwritten letter is always well received.

In the letter, you need only say something like "Thank you so much for your help recently, which helped me get the position I wanted. Please accept this small gift as a token of my sincere appreciation. With best wishes, etc"

If possible, deliver the gift personally, and tell her how much you appreciated her help.

Please note, for gifts of this kind, a smaller box of better quality chocolates is better than a huge box of inferior chocolates. The same applies to wine.

A thank you gift need not be extravagant, the hand written letter and personal delivery will make even a small expenditure a very classy gift.

Cheers ;-)

Hi Shy, A thank you note or card is always appropriate and any thing you do after that is additional kindness. I am sure that she would love a nice box of chocolates, if you buy wine make sure she even drinks, there are a lot of people that don't drink, flowers such as a friendship bouquet is always a nice gift, or a couple flowers in a vase is thoughtful. Any thing above and beyond the card is a plus and considered extra. It is up to you since she has been so kind to you it would be very acceptable to do any of the above. You may even invite her to a movie or dinner if she is single. Good friends are hard to come by and it sounds like she may be a very good friend and it may be worth cultivating this relationship.

Buy a bottle of wine not chocolate (but only ONLY if you know they drink alcohol and do not have any alcohol problems e.g. alcoholic - I made this mistake once!) Don't buy chocolate, I know many girls that 1. wouldnt eat it because theyre on a diet/trying to avoid it, 2. don't like to eat food received from people they don't know particularly well (e.g. acquaintance)

Give it to her in person and say something likse "I just wanted to give you this to show you my appreciation for all your efforts in helping me to find a job, I really appreciate everything you have done to help."

Chocolate, wine, flowers, fruit basket, cake, are all acceptable gifts. Also include a thank you note.

Just tell her that it is a token of your appreciation for her assistance.

Write a thank you note to her and ask if she needs any help of her own, like chores that she is not motivated to do like organizing, etc. Anything that doesn't have monetary value in it and giving your time, to exchange the favor, is more valuable.

For example you can write something like this:

Dear (name of person),

Thank you so much for helping me find a job. There is not enough words to express my gratitude. I feel better if I could return the favor to you. If you need help with anything like chores or errands, I would be happy to help you out. Let me know and thanks again!

Best regards,
(your name)
