If Jesus said you should just sit there and take abuse by people, (yes he said this --look it up) doesn't that actually make you a total spinelss wuss?
does Jesus wish for his followers to be seen as ineffectual passive pathetic wimps?

Ghandi, was a Pacifist. Was he ineffectual? Mother Theresa was a pacifist, did she have no impact on humanity? How much greater is Jesus than they? We turn the other cheek, forgive those who transgress against us, love and pray for our enemies. Christians do this in order to show them God's Power, Love, kindness and mercy. Believe me, the day is coming where God's wrath will be poured out on those who persecuted Christian's and Jews. In this life and the next all those who mocked, and cursed, and blasphemed, hunted down, imprisoned, and murdered Christians shall be made to suffer. Vengeance is Mine, sayeth the Lord.

mujade, I didn't really feel like talking people out of killing themselves tonight. Coz I just felt like lifting up the The King of Glory and His name instead. Jesus. I can say that again and again, and His name just gets sweeter every time. His name is like ointment poured forth.Jesus. Jesus. Jesus Jesus. Now as Jesus walked the road to Golgotha, bearing His own Cross on which He knew He was about to be Crucified, being innocent, being mutilated by whippings, you were on His mind. He being God in the flesh, looked into the future and saw you. Knowing that even though you didn't realise you were a sinner, and needed saving from your own self, He suffered in your place, that you may have at least the chance and opportunity, to have eternal life with Him. He took the Keys of Death and Hell and Lead Captivity Captive, that you might be free. That is not a wuss. That is not an ineffectual passive and pathetic wimp, that is Love which Hung on a Cross for you. That is my Hero! Whom I fashion my life after and hope to be every bit just like him. That is what every true Christians Desire and Hope is. Any who defy and deny Him, may be doing so because they have a cowardly nature, and lack the courage to accept the Truth. Just which one are you.

I'm more of a pick-and-choose, eye for an eye-type Christian. The Bible has been translated and interpreted too many times to take it word for word as far as I'm concerned, but I do believe in a God of some kind. Might as well be a Christian God! Doesn't mean I'm "an ineffectual passive pathetic wimp" as you put it though. I'd take my chances arm wrestling you. :)

Jesus is far from spineless. He just said dont stoop to their level. But if your acting like a Christian, I would bet that not many people would hit you so that you must turn the other cheek. Jesus went into the temple and turned over the money changers tables. Thats not spineless. He called the most powerful men around vipers and hypocrates, thats not spineless. Jesus was killed because he stood up to tall, how can you say he wants his followers that he asks to lead a life equil to his spineless.

Did Jesus sit still and do nothing when he found the sellers of doves and other stuff had set up shop in the temple...?

No. He overturned their tables and threw them out...bodily...

Because they were violating the sanctity of the temple. In fact were being disrespectful of Jehovah God [ Not Jesus, but his Father in heaven]
the false teaching that Jesus is God himself come down to earth would make the above scripture picture God as a very harsh individual.
Jehovah God leaves all the punishing, now, to Jesus.
(John 5:22) For the Father judges no one at all, but he has committed all the judging to the Son,

Jesus surely judged those ones.

Sure they are, and that of course is what explains the Crusades and the Inquisition.;)

Look, just because Jesus said it, doesn't mean they're going to do it. Christianity is a religion mostly based on the writings of St. Paul and has very little to do with the teachings of Jesus. Sad but true!

You are surrounded by a bad gang and abuse you. Can you open your mouth and abuse back. What will happen?. even if you keep silence they won't leave you, if you open your mouth and abuse you know what you will get.

Jesus shown the ways to deal with certain kind of people. He has shown the way how to live in this world. If you keep this in your heart you can avoid serious troubles.

It takes great strength of character to repay good for evil. It's much, much easier to repay insult for insult and punch for punch. God calls us to excercise self-control and self-discipline - two traits that are hard to master. God Himself "is kind to the ungrateful and wicked," and as His followers, He expects us to be also so that our actions might glorify Him.

But, I think you're overlooking the other things God has called us to be: bold, fearless, and courageous in our faith. And, these are certainly not the characteristics of a "pathetic whimp."

Jesus said, "I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves."

Definition of shrewd: Characterized by keen awareness, sharp intelligence, and often a sense of the practical

So, no, it doesn't sound like Jesus called us to be ineffectual either.

Not really.

If a 7 foot tall proffessional kickboxer gets insulted yet DOESN'T rip the insulters head off and play basketball with it then would you call him a wuss or nice?

It's all about the ability. There's a difference between someone not being able to beat the snot out of you and someone not wanting to.

No, He does not. He also said to speak the truth in love.
He does not want women to be abused by men.
No, He does not wish for his followers to be seen as "pathetic wimps" as you put it, and I am not a "total spineless wuss," as you referred to me.
He NEVER said that Christians are to "sit and take abuse." Show me the chapter and verse.

"Turn the other cheek" does not mean for us to take abuse.
