... and do you think the fear of punishment/ridicule is a primary reason you stick with your religion? (instead of converting or becoming a non-believer)

Luke 12:48 says, "From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked."

My husband never prays for anything for himself and I think it's because of this scripture. What do I say to him about that? I don't want him to be afraid to ask things of God.

I have a family friend who is a Christian Scientist. She has told me flat out that if her daughter (Who is five) were to get sick or injured, all she would do is pray for her (Which is glorified wishing in my own opinion) so if she is sick/injured/hurt, she'd get better.

My question is, why do people believe in this? I understand and respect the freedom of religion, but I'd like to know what sways people into becoming Christian Scientists. It seems all too absurd to me. Praying for a miracle when modern medicine can save a life? Praying for a ressurection when a family member dies? Am I the only one who thinks it's crazy?

How are these parents not abusing their children? I know some states have religious laws, but, I mean.. Come on!

Any insight, please? =)

This isn't intended as an attack as I am an Atheist too. But if you could say what your goals so to speak are when it comes to conversing with theists? in a forum such as yahoo answers.
1. Do you just like getting a laugh?
2. Do you hope to educate?
3. Do you want them to admit there is no god?
4. Do you just want them to stop talking about it?
5. Have you ever actually gotten someone to change their mind ?

Please try to be as nice as possible with these answers.

already living in the "end times" i mean if everyone of you took a step back and sat down and looked at the World (forget the rat race we have in our nature everyday of our life)... and all the happenings, with all of the different people, places and things. The climate, earth, natural resources...disease, violence, bllodshed, SIN, i mean arent we heading to/or experiencing all of the horrible things (my lord Jessus) mentions?

Just my thoughts, i feel the we the people of the World are getting worse and worse in every single way... every single way! nothing these days is getting better, all i ever see anymore are things that make me bow my head and ponder, one of these days God is gonna come back and say i leave you "man kind" alone for ___years and LOOK at what you've done with the place!!!

I fear no man or nothing more than God. and i know we are all "in for it when he gets back"

What do you think? how do you feel? about any of this...

Thanks people, smile more, "/ JOe

My daughter is 21 yrs,her boyfriend is 17, barely. They decided to get pregnant. Now its time for a shower. Both families are large,I ask him to have his mom give them a shower and I would give a shower on our side.2 weeks ago my daughter told me his mom and sister-in-law plan to attend our families shower increasing the amount of money I now have to spend on food.Ok I accepted that.I talked with the boy at that time and explained this is only for women he could go skateboarding with my youngest son, stopping by afterwards to munch out on the left over food.Well now my daughter told me he plans on attending!I think I should just cancell the whole thing. What woukld you do?The boy has no respect for anyone.

I don't mean simply feeling better after a prayer or anything like that, although that too could be attributed to God..(impossible to tell?)
I mean any real, direct result from a prayer. say you wished for a bike (bad example) and hey presto, the next morning, by sheer luck, you find an old rusted one in your front yard. anything like that. just curious. thanks all

I constantly hear Christians claim that, Religion doesn't matter and it's all about a personal relationship with god. Well then would you have that relationship if organized religion had not produced the bible? Yes or No. I don't want rationalizations.

How could God die?

Gog is an Everlasting and spiritual being hence He cannot die!

It proves nothing but a great confusion of the early church leaders who tried to make him God and traped into Trinity!

Jesus never claimed to be a God in flash. This concept of incarnation - an Indo-Greek philosiphy, was adopted to award divinity to jesus but the same is yet a disputed matter in christian world.

Why don't you accept "The sign of Jonah" ?

And believe that Jesus did not die on cross!

Your twist & Turns are creating more confusions for the Christianity.

Please don't judge but I take recreational drugs. I have cut down on use considerably since splitting with emotionally abusive ex (who is a dealer). I now go clubbing once every six weeks or so, and might take 2 xtc pills. I have distanced myself from ‘our’ group of friends cos seeing him still envokes strong feelings of hurt and anguish over the way he treated me (bully, control freak, pusher). However I miss my friends. A lot. There is an engagement party of his best friend and the woman I feel close to. I want to go, but don’t want to see him. When I think of him it makes me feel sick inside cos he made me so depressed and hating myself. When I think of missing out on fun times with friends, it makes me feel sick also. When I was with them I felt like I had a family, that I was loved and fitted in for the first time ever (I’m 27 and have had traumatic upbringing). However, I wonder how much of that was cos I was with him, how much was cos of the drugs etc. I really want

You are taking a wager not believing in some of them aren't you?

If you are certain that they don't exist, and you don't fear the consequences because it seems ridiculous, then are you an atheist for the most part... with the exception of one additional god?

So why act like TOTAL atheists are so terrible? I realize many atheists openly state that Christianity is silly, and it can be offensive... but what would you be saying if you lived in ancient Greece, serving in the army... and Caesar wants to send you to war because he has consulted the "oracles" and they said go for it? I mean... wouldn't that stuff irk you a little?

INSTRUCTIONS:
Using the New International Version Bible, answer the following questions to this NIV quiz.
Do not rely on your memory. As the Bible is the final authority, you must take the answer from the Bible verse (not from footnotes but from the text).
1. Fill in the missing words in Matthew 5:44. "Love your enemies, __________ them that curse you, ______________ to them that hate you, and pray for them that __________ and persecute you."
2. According to Matthew 17:21, what two things are required to cast out this type of demon?
3. According to Matthew 18:11, why did Jesus come to earth?
4. According to Matthew 27:2, what was Pilate's first name?
5. In Matthew 27:35, when the wicked soldiers parted His garments, they were fulfilling the words of the prophet. Copy what the prophet said in Matthew 27:35 from the NIV.
6. In Mark 3:15, Jesus gave the apostles power to cast out demons and to: ____________
7. According to Mark 7:16, what does a man need to be able to hear?
8. According to Luke 7:28, what was John? (Teacher, prophet, carpenter, etc.). What is his title or last name?
9. In Luke 9:55, what did the disciples not know?
10. In Luke 9:56, what did the Son of man not come to do? According to this verse, what did He come to do?
11. In Luke 22:14, how many apostles were with Jesus?
12. According to Luke 23:38, in what three languages was the superscription written?
13. In Luke 24:42, what did they give Jesus to eat with His fish?
14. John 3:13 is a very important verse, proving the deity of Christ. According to this verse (as Jesus spoke), where is the Son of man?
15. What happened each year as told in John 5:4?
16. In John 7:50, what time of day did Nicodemus come to Jesus?
17. In Acts 8:37, what is the one requirement for baptism?
18. What did Saul ask Jesus in Acts 9:6?
19. Write the name of the man mentioned in Acts 15:34.
20. Study Acts 24:6-8. What would the Jew have done with Paul? What was the chief captain's name? What did the chief captain command?
21. Copy Romans 16:24 word for word from the NIV.
22. First Timothy 3:16 is perhaps the greatest verse in the New Testament concerning the deity of Christ. In this verse, who was manifested in the flesh?
23. In the second part of First Peter 4:14, how do [they] speak of Christ? And, what do we Christians do?
24. Who are the three Persons of the Trinity in First John 5:7?
25. Revelation 1:11 is another very important verse that proves the deity of Christ. In the first part of this verse Jesus said, "I am the A______________ and O___________, the _________ and the _______:"
Conclusion: Little space is provided for your answers, but it's much more than needed. If you followed the instructions above, you not only failed the test, you receive a big goose egg.
(Ed. These are all missing in the NIV.) So now what do you think of your "accurate, easy to understand, up to date Bible"?
If you would like to improve your score, and in fact score 100%, you can take this test using the Authorized (King James) Bible.
