Valmiki Ramayana Aranya Kanda, Sarga 41:
Maareecha repeats that not only Ravana but the entire demonic race is also going to ruin due to Ravana's impertinence. Finally when Ravana is heedless of these advises, Maareecha prepares himself to die by the arrow of an enemy, namely Rama, rather than by his own clansman, Ravana.

"maam nihatya tu raamo asau aciraat tvaam vadhisyati |
anena krita krityo asmi mriye ca api arinaa hatah" || 3-41-17

'That Rama will soon kill you after killing me, and I will be dying at the hand of my enemy rather than at the hand of my own clansman like you, whereby the purpose of my life will be brought to an end.' [3-41-17]

Maareecha decides that it is better to die at the hand of Rama rather than by Ravana.

"aanayisyasi cet siitaam aashramaat sahito mayaa |
na eva tvam asi na eva aham na eva lankaa na raaksasaah"|| 3-41-19

'If you are going to bring Seetha from their hermitage on going there with me, then you will not be there, I will not be there, Lanka will not be there, the demons will not be there.' [3-41-19]

Valmiki Ramayana, Aranya Kanda, Sarga 44:

'Rama eliminates Maareecha when he is escaping beyond reach in the form of Golden Deer. He sports with that deer for a long time and when it is leading him away and afar from the hermitage, he is vexed with the trickery of the deer and kills it. At the time of his death Maareecha shouts out for Seetha and Lakshmana, as demanded by Ravana. Rama is perplexed at this oddity of Maareecha and presumes that some danger is immanent and then returns to hermitage.'

As with any other demon's death Maareecha's death also is eulogised as a merited one and reading or listening this is said to bring merit. These results are not said in Valmi Ramayana in this way. These collateral scripts like Skaanda purana and Aadhyaatma Raamaayana etc. give more explanations.

For the elimination of Maareecha, Aadhyaatma Raamaayana (Aranya, Chapter 7, Verse 12-15):

Rama followed magical deer (Maya-mriga). Rama is the supportor of the cosmic magic called Maya, which is world-bewitching and which manifests as the universe. Inspite of the Pure Sprit, self-fulfilled and changeless, he followed the deer for pleasing Sita, though knowing that the deer was realy Mareecha. He did all this only to fulfil the dictum that the Supreme Lord is ever gracious to His devotees.
(Mareecha was a devotee who wanted death at his hand as a means of salvation).

'From that body of Maareecha a divine aureole rises while all the world is seeing... that merged into Rama alone, causing very great astonishment... this is the marvel of Rama, nothing else.. So the divine beings thought seeing from heavens, and said 'a Brahman or a demon, or a sinner or meritorious one who cites the name of Rama at the time of leaving his body, he attains the Ultimate Threshold... Blessing so, the divine beings returned to their abodes on seeing the salvation of Maareecha's soul in Rama.' (Aadhyaatma Raamaayana, Aranya , Seventh Sarga, Verses 20-25).

In the Hindu epic the Ramayana, Maricha (Sanskrit: मारीच, mārīcha) was a rakshasa who played a small but very important part. He was thrown into a remote island by the arrow of Lord Rama when he tried to interrupt Sage Vishwamitra's yaga .Though Rama killed the other demon Subhahu Rama spared maricha in the first instance. After that he became very afraid of the very mention of the name Rama.
Later in the epic, Ravana wanted to kidnap Sita and so asked for Maricha's help,
Maricha had the power of changing himself into any form he wanted along with the appropriate voice imitation. But Maricha was afraid of Rama. He still could not get over the experience he had when Rama shot an arrow that hurled him far into the sea. This happened while Rama & Lakshmana were guarding Vishwamitra's yaga. So Maricha tried to persuade Ravana to stay away from Rama but Ravana was determined.

Ravana, gave him the choice of helping him to carry out his plan or death. Maricha preferred to die in Rama's hand than being killed by Ravana. So he agreed to help Ravana in the abduction of Sita. who then turned himself into a golden deer. The golden lustre of the deer lured Sita so much that she wished to have the deer for herself. While Rama understood that the deer is unnatural, and hence potentially dangerous, Sita still insisted on having it
While chasing the deer Rama realised that the deer was no other than Maricha & so decided to kill it.When Maricha cried out in Rama's voice for help Lakshmana was forced to leave Sita alone , which in turn led to Ravana abducting Sita.

The object of Rama Avatara was to destroy the wicked Ravana.Maricha's killing is one incident which led to further development of the plot i.e. destruction of the evil demon Ravana..

Marichi, is a Bibilical Amorites, one among 49 MARUTS. He is a mental son of Lord Brahma. He is grand father of Surya. He becomes a Raksasa by the curse of Agasthya Muni. He is a Mayavi whocan take any form.
Laxmana requests Rama not to follow golden deer, Maricha.
How the incarnation of Vishnu failed to realize the sacred facts of Maricha & followed the words of his wife?

It is just a beautiful art of storey telling in India that probably took years to develop and perfect before it was presented to the people. Indians had perfected many arts in the past including dancing, drama, theatre, Kathputli (marionette) manipulation etc.
