If God created the world and all that is in it, then He would have a right to be jealous if His creation did not honor Him.

Here are a few things God's word had to say about Him.

Ex 20:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

Ex 34:14 For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:

Nu 5:14 And the spirit of jealousy come upon him, and he be jealous of his wife, and she be defiled: or if the spirit of jealousy come upon him, and he be jealous of his wife, and she be not defiled:

Nu 5:30 Or when the spirit of jealousy cometh upon him, and he be jealous over his wife, and shall set the woman before the LORD, and the priest shall execute upon her all this law.

De 4:24 For the LORD thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.

De 5:9 Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me,

De 6:15 (For the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.

Jos 24:19 And Joshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve the LORD: for he is an holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins.

1Ki 19:10 And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

1Ki 19:14 And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

Eze 39:25 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Now will I bring again the captivity of Jacob, and have mercy upon the whole house of Israel, and will be jealous for my holy name;

Joe 2:18 Then will the LORD be jealous for his land, and pity his people.

Na 1:2 God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies.

Zec 1:14 So the angel that communed with me said unto me, Cry thou, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.

Zec 8:2 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; I was jealous for Zion with great jealousy, and I was jealous for her with great fury.

A Holy God can be righteously jealous, but when we are jealous it is not righteous.

Q: Do you think being jealous is good?

A: Being jealous probably doesn't qualify as being good, in the context the word is normally used.

Q: God was jealous and hated people worshipping other gods?

A: True, if the Old Testament is to be believed.

Q: So [I guess you think] it's a good or godly emotion?

A: I don't think jealousy is an emotion, so much as a choice.

God is God, and you never wanna mess with God, but since you are talking about someone else i just have to say that jealousy is a bad thing. There are a lot of jealous people out there who will do anything to get what the other person has even if it means killing that person.

You don't get it. Consider Christ and his marriage to the church like a godly marriage between a man and woman. Jealousy of your spouse putting another before you then seems natural doesn't it?

Or imagine your own child putting another before you as their guardian. If you were a loving parent and took care of your duties, how would you feel?

Any emotion can be taken to the extreme. Jealousy is bad when it becomes a spiteful action. That would be how you choose to handle your feelings.

God, hhhmmmm, well, it was never stated that He hated those who IDOLIZED false Gods. As far as jealousy goes, I believe a little bit of jealousy may be good, but if it consumes your every thought, or if carried to far, it will only destroy the relationship. Next time leave God out of your question, it only brings out the atheists.

One God
[21:21] Have they found gods on earth who can create?

[21:22] If there were in them (the heavens and the earth) other gods beside GOD, there would have been chaos. Glory be to GOD; the Lord with absolute authority. He is high above their claims.

Never Question God's Wisdom
[21:23] He is never to be asked about anything He does, while all others are questioned.

[21:24] Have they found other gods beside Him? Say, "Show me your proof. This is the message to my generation, consummating all previous messages." Indeed, most of them do not recognize the truth; this is why they are so hostile.

One God/One Message/One Religion
[21:25] We did not send any messenger before you except with the inspiration: "There is no god except Me; you shall worship Me alone."

[21:26] Yet, they said, "The Most Gracious has begotten a son!" Glory be to Him. All (messengers) are (His) honored servants.

[21:27] They never speak on their own, and they strictly follow His commands.

Can They Create a Fly?

73. O people, here is a parable that you must ponder carefully: the idols you set up beside GOD can never create a fly, even if they banded together to do so. Furthermore, if the fly steals anything from them, they cannot recover it; weak is the pursuer and the pursued.

74. They do not value GOD as He should be valued. GOD is the Most Powerful, the Almighty.

75. GOD chooses from among the angels messengers, as well as from among the people. GOD is Hearer, Seer.

76. He knows their past and their future. To GOD belongs the ultimate control of all matters.

77. O you who believe, you shall bow, prostrate, worship your Lord, and work righteousness, that you may succeed.

Jealousy arises from selfishness, therefore it's a sign of imperfection, the biblical god is prone to jealously and is so passionate that its difficult to imagine him as being perfect so I never believe him to be the real God.

The only being who has the right to be truly jealous is God.

As for humans, a moderate amount of jealousy is a healthy thing.

Andrew,
Christ told us to love our neighbors and to treat others as we wish to be treated. That does not go well with your idea of what I am hearing. GOD certainly has a right to do whatever HE wants. HE created us... NOT the other way around. HE expects us to obey HIM and we should. I am guessing that your parents always let you do what you wanted but mine expected to have some control over things that would endanger us (as children). Don't be so stingy with your love. HE isn't. Have a nice weekend.
Thanks,
Eds

Can you be jealous without sinning? God can and if you can be jealous and not hold contempt in your heart then its good. The bible says be ye angry and sin not (EPH 4:26) so its ok to be mad sometimes if you dont let it overwhelm you into sinning. God has much more self controll then we do and he will never sin.
