I believe in god (I use lowercase on purpose), but not as an individual entity. God is everything, a unifying force that includes everything from the smallest atom to the grandest idea, and can not be assigned human attributes like gender or even emotions. (Remember that scene in I Heart Huckabees where he takes the sheet and points to all the places that affect each other, and you pull on one thread and it messes with stuff on the other side? That fabric is god.)

I do not believe in Jesus. The idea that you can apologize in the last minutes before death and be granted a place in Heaven is ludicrous. No one was sent to pay for our sins, we have to pay for them ourselves.

I believe in reincarnation. What and where you come back as depends on how much you've learned in this life.

The Bible was written by men, and only men. It has gone through countless rewrittings and revisions and I don't trust a word of it.

And I'm not necessarily talking about god vs no god, though it is one of the thoughts. But more specifically, how you interpret certain things about your beliefs? Like homosexuality for one. I know you will say that God would not allow something in the Bible to be 'wrong' but the Bible was written by man, and man is fallible. Especially when it comes to translating ancient languages. For that matter, how do we know that we were right with the translation? What if that word we think means this, really was supposed to mean that? I dunno, I was just thinking.

Are christians allowed to defend themselves? Or wrestle demonic beings into submission and throw them down?
It says that Love always protects, should christians be ignoring the duty to defend others, or even themselves?

Did Jesus form via an embryo? Mary had the egg. Who had the sperm? We receive one set of chromosomes from mom and one from dad. Mary obviously would donate one set, but who donated the other? Thank you.

A little background. Fussy little old lady across the street, lives in a huge home by herself. Just put $26K into redoing her backyard.

Now as some of you know, I have a new puppy, Diogenes, who is just at the stage where we've got him trained to go in the yard - finally! So every 2 hours, I let him out my front door, he piddles, and I praise him. Not loudly. Just from my front door and he's about 20 feet away. "Good boy! Nice potty!"

Little Old Lady neigbhor came over to complain recently. The sound really carries into her backyard, you see. It's just a terrible burden on her to hear me say "good boy, nice potty."

So...can you think of some OTHER way for me to praise my dogs defication and urinary accomplishments? I'd like them to be something to really make her day, if possible. Just now I said incorporated "diarrhea" in my praises, but I thought you guys could do better.

Thanks!

Last year in high school (my senior year) my english teacher taught us all to say "retarded" instead of "mentally ill"... then he criticized and made fun of all people that say "mentally ill" or "mentally challenged".. he said the word is "retarded", it's not intended to be offensive but people just think it is.

He also used the word "ni**er" instead of calling it the n-word (he was white)... I guess he felt that saying the actual word made more sense. But he only used the word when he was trying to teach us about a book based on racism or a movie or something. There were a lot of black students in the calss and they didn't mind it.

Is he right?

In the Bible, the archangel Gabriel is personified as a messenger for God. In EVERY mention of Gabriel's appearance to various people in the Bible, the message recipient becomes terrified at the angel's appearance. Gabriel immediately IDENTIFIES HIMSELF and COMFORTS the person.

Now let's take a good look at Mohammad's experience with "Gabriel"...
1.) The "angel" does NOT identify himself, as he does for all other people to whom he appears.
2.) The "angel" does NOT comfort Mohammad in any way when Mohammad became afraid.
3.) The "angel" commands Mohammad (who supposedly cannot read) to read. Mohammad tells the "angel" he can not read, and the "angel" repeats the demand.
4.) The "angel" CHOKES Mohammad, and Mohammad runs home to his wife... terrified.

This "angel" certainly does NOT appear to be God's benevolent messenger.

Who ELSE could that abusive "angel" be? Could it be Lucifer? Lucifer is said to appear as an angel of light, and is also called the prince of lies.

That, "Whatever you bind on Earth shall be bound in Heaven, and whatever you loose on Earth shall be loosed in Heaven."

Does this mean that whenever a Pope commissioned a crusade, all the people in Christian Heaven went and invaded Muslim Heaven?

would you say that evolution and big bang theory IS the complete truth of how life and the universe begin???
or maybe it is just the best explanation we have nowadays from what we can nowadays observe???
In the universe there may be forces not observable or measurable nowadays with our technology...and i am not referring to god just using logics, 100 years back they couldnt observe many things we can now, so who is to say in 200 years people will be able to bserve new things to create new theories about how the universe began.

I can say from personal experience that Satan has never once contacted me, invaded my computer or dreams or even caused me to do anything, that I didn't want to do. According to some christians I should be ripe for him to take over and yet, there is only me. Do christians really believe, not only in an invisible omnipotent god but the "evil" twin as well?
