I'm Argentinian too but also speak nearly perfect English. "Understand" is "Entiendo"; maybe you were confused because people usually says "I don't Understand", meaning "No entiendo"
Espero que hallas entendido eso.

Yo hablo Espanol pero no lo escribo bien. Yo naci en California pero mi familia es originalmente del DF (La ciudad de Mexico). Trabajo con una senora que era de una area cerca de Buenos Aires y me gusta mucho conversar con ella. Encuentro muy interesante conversar con gente Latina por que aprendo mucho de lugares diferentes. Excuse me for my ignorance but I think the Mexicans or the Spanish people will be happy to help you since that they have a great language.
But not great as the Italian language Language. Sorry

"I understand" quiere decir "yo entiendo".
"No entiendo" se dice "I don't understand".
