A lot of people claim to be Christian, but many of them never go to church and don't really know the first thing about Christ beyond the fact that He died on a cross. Some of these people may have a false sense of security, believing that they have a place in Heaven...only to find out it ain't so when they die.

No-one is saved for the end has not been yet and although your pastor's wife's statement has truth in it,it is not up to her to decide, just as it is not even the individual who says:"I am saved" who can say that, for God is the judge of whom he will save or not, your pastors wife' statement does have some truth in it though, for salvation cannot be earned nor is it automatic(Philipians2:12 ; 3:12-14 ;Matthew10:22Salvation is from God through the ransom sacrifice of his son Jesus Christ(1John4:9,14 ; Romans6:23)God's gift of Salvation is becauser of love, but Love cannot condone unrighteousness(Hebrews1:9) Jesus also showed that not everyone who calls themselves a Christian will be considered one by him, he would even call a lot of them workers of lawlessness, why? Because they fail to do God's will which is what is needed for salvation, God will give his salvation only to those who are obedient to him and are doing his will (1John2:17)and (Colosasians1:9,10)9For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding.
10And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, gaqining knowledge of God's will is importand if we are to be able to do it and thereby please God fully. So more is involved than just saying we are Christian and/or saved. However we can, if we are doing God's will, have confidence that we will be saved.

they have a false since of faith. This fault normally comes out of the church and preaching they are under. Many believe they are Christians and will go to heaven. But the Bible says they are fools and are mislead by the false prophets. That's why it is so critical that we all investigate our own stance before the Lord by reading our Bibles, and evaluating our lifestyle and commitment to Christ by the Bible alone.
We should not rely fully on others or our pastors. Remember, there are false prophets in the pulpits.

It can be a true statement in the light of someone speaking who does not understand what it takes to be saved. Often, these people think that they are saved by living a "good life", by doing enough good deeds.
However, salvation is not earned by our works. Nothing we do can regain a standing of perfection that God demands of us. Only through the death and resurrection of Jesus do we have the forgiveness we need to be saved.

Dear Cindy,
i think that the statement is rather valid. Jesus himself says that the way is narrow, and that there will be those who say: "Lord, Lord" and the Lord will say to them "I never knew you."
Most people know people who call themselves Christians or say they believe in God but their lives are quite different from what would be expected from someone who does follow God. It is not any person's place to really determine where any individual is with God.
Ultimately God is the one who knows and judges the hearts of people.
A Christian's role is to do his best to obey and be an example of Christ's love and to share that love with others. Usually when a person tells me they are a Christian i take them at their word- but i will treat them as a Christian (meaning if their conduct, etc. is un-Christ like-- i would mention that to them- and i think a lot of times people's responses to correction is very telling).
Hope that helps. Kindly,
Nickster

'Jesus' said that, see Matthew 7:21-23.
Besides no man has the authority to say who goes to heaven or hell...that is only the province of god who will decide on the Day of Judgement.
Basically those that CLAIM 'salvation' are bearing false witness, since the Day of Judgment has not yet passed. One can HOPE that they are doing what they should be doing, but until THAT DAY and ya get your 'rubber stamp' its not yet decided.
How does "Jesus' say one gets 'salvation'? Mat 19:17 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, obey the commandments.”
In many ways the teachings of "Jesus' and the religous views of Christianity are two different things.

While your pastor's wife does have a point, she has no right to judge others. We can only be sure about our own salvation as individuals. As for everyone else, that's between them and God and really isn't any of our business.

I agree. I think that is true. I know a some Christians who also believe they are saved, but are not. I think when you get to heaven, you will see a lot of folks you never thought would be there - there. And a lot of folks you thought you'd see there - MIA. That's why it is imperative to know what you believe, know why you believe, and know what the Lord expects from you.

I think the pastors wife stepped over the line, its not her job or anyone elses to say who is saved or who is not. God does not need any man's help.
