Did Jesus form via an embryo? Mary had the egg. Who had the sperm? We receive one set of chromosomes from mom and one from dad. Mary obviously would donate one set, but who donated the other? Thank you.

There is one theory, but it is rather off the wall. I am sure most people would dismiss it as nonsense. However, here I go. It is called parthenogenesis. This has been seen in lizards. Here is a link to a story of a lizard "virgin birth."

I stumbled across this blog as well.

Basically, if this were true, then Jesus would have been a hermaphrodite, and he would not have been able to produce his own children. It is thought by some he had children and by others he did not.

Another interesting story is this one where female mice were able to reproduce without a male mouse.

These theories are rather out there, but maybe we are just not intelligent enough to question their validity.

I tried at least. What more do you want? ;)

immaculate conception is a catholic doctrine concerning the birth of mary free from sin, it has nothing to do with jesus (that's the virgin birth).

to answer your question, obviously god poofed the sperm into existence. happens all the time, don't you know.

No matter what people want to believe, the immaculate conception is nothing more than a mythical story. No such thing can happen in reality.

I think there's no explanation.. It is a virgin birth, an outworking of the Holy Spirit. Every chosen people were born with this divine birth. Take Isaac, his mother Sarah was of old age and barren, yet he was born. And also John the Baptist. Elizabeth, his mother also was of old age.

No biological explanation. But there is a mythological one.

Sure there's an explanation. Mary cheated on Joseph (with whom she had never fornicated), Jesus was born, and *boom* Christianity was born as well.
