What are some arguments against the beliefs/practices of traditional Church of Christ? Supporting scripture? Does anyone know the history or basic theology of Church of Christ? If there is no governing body, how do the churches maintain a level of consistency since the Bible is open to a certain level of interpretation? Is Church of Christ a dying denomination? Does it also seem that the majority of members of traditional Church of Christ congregations are less educated (especially since many of their preachers do not hold theology degrees)? I am open to any insight into this topic! I am wanting to learn as much as possible, and these are many of the "arguments" I have heard thus far. It also seems that Church of Christ believe only they are going to heaven. Is that true? Are they similar to a cult? What are some things I have missed? Why should I or why should I not choose to join a traditional Church of Christ? Thank you!

I often notice men doing that, & it makes me angry and uncomfortable. Is it SEXUAL in nature when men do that, or am I mistaken? (It doesn't look like just a nervous tic!) Either way, it is unnerving & distracting, and an invasion of our privacy when we're on the subway & subjected to this unwanted display. If it IS like a bit of masturbation, it bothers me all the more! I don't want to assume the worst unless I know for sure what such behavior signifies. Please advise. Replies from women also - with their reactions to these intrusive public displays - will be welcome in addition to male input on the subject. I am very resentful when I am a captive audience in a space where a guy is shaking or moving his leg/legs or foot/feet urgently. There is a time & place for everything, & the subway car is not it!! Your own bedroom is more appropriate for such actions. Men should control themselves & act appropriately in public.

I'm making a list of prominent atheist political leaders (past or present). So far I've got:

Fidel Castro
Mao Tse Tung
Pol Pot
Joseph Stalin
Kim Il-sung
Josep Broz Tito
Leon Trotsky
Walter Ulbricht

Any others you can think of?

My father is a preacher who has never claimed me. I'm a agnostic who when I found out I may have a daughter from my wild youth days embraced her. why would a agnostic who doesn't know if there is a god act in a more moral upright way then a man who preaches the word of god?

"To probe the link among religiousness, spirituality, and IQ, I had participants complete the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale Third Edition (WAIS-III), the Spiritual Transcendence Scale (STS), and a questionnaire that asked about their religious background and behavior, academic achievement, and SAT scores. Religious belief and behavior were negatively related to self-reported quantitative SAT (QSAT) scores. Moreover, prayer fulfillment (one of the STS subscales) correlated negatively with father’s education, and with self-reported scores on the Verbal SAT, QSAT, and Verbal IQ as measured by WAIS-III."

Well, I've been mistaken for a crationist a couple of times now, also i got a little tired with the whole fundamentalims in evolution preached around R&S. It all got me thinking.

To my own amezement, i found that, at least for me, there is only one Big problem with the "creationist theory". One thing, and one thing only, really prevent me from considering it seriously. Well here it goes:

According to all data we have acess, all that the field of biology has discovered in the last century or so (genetics, physiology, ecology, botany, zoology, celular biology and studies that target evolution directly), there are, i think, 2 possible conclusions that can be archeived about the origin of life's diversity that make sense according to the data, and they are:

1)All life evolved over millons of years, from one common ancestor. Random mutations were selected by the enviroment (natural selection), the ones that were good remained, the ones that were bad did'nt, and that caused diversity.

2)All life was created from one single event of supernatural creation commanded by a transcendent being (God), already with a wide range of diversity and complexity. Still, given the data, life was created with the clear appearance that it has evolved (although it hasn't), this appearence is very very clear, unmistakable and it simply must've been put there on purpose by the creator, again, given the data there is no other possible explanation.

Well, the thing is, option (2) makes God a liar. For me that is unacceptable. Also I personally think option (1) shows in a much better way God's wisdom and power and its more plausible, but the fact that the "theory of creation" implies that God is a liar is the greatest barrier for me to take creationism seriously. All the rest seems secondary to that.
If someone explains to me, that it isn't so, i'll pretty much have to take creationism more seriously and research about it. Anyone up to the challenge?

(awnsers that say: "but there isn't really any clear evidence for evolution" will not be taken into consideration, given what we now know about God's creation it has to be, either option 1 or 2).

there will be a follow up to this question regarding metodological problems with creationism.

Does he really care about our personal lives?

Firstly, Im Christian.

Problem #1: Most Christians (Or at least the ones in Illinois) arent very nice people. Okay, not most, but a fair enough portian to present a problem.

Problem #2: Many Christian myths (the word myth does not necessarily imply untruth) show direct patterns of development from other older myths such as Nah and Unabatish from the Epic of Gilgamesh, and the Cherubim from the Assyrian Sphinx.

Ive been scanning thru the religious questions, and have noticed that most people that answer seem to have an atheist point of view on the world. Im curious to know whether or not these are just the few who choose to answer, while those who are religious decide not to, or if most of the world is actually atheist. So my question to you is: Do you believe in a higher being, most often referred to as GOD, or do you not? Please give one GOOD reason to accompany your answer. thanx!

Since WW2 the name Hitler has become understandably unpopular. Nevertheless, there has to be a whole bunch of people with the surname Hitler. So where are they? Wheres Bob Hitler or Wendy Hitler or Jeff Hitler? If you google Hitler you just get old Adolf. He was surely not the last of the Hitlers so where have they all gone? Genghis Khan was pretty handy at killing folk but theres still loads of people called Khan. Whats so special about Hitler?

The Bible is clear as to the fate of those who reject God?

"Fear him which is able to
destroy both soul and body in hell" (Matthew 10:28).
"Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire,
prepared for the devil and his angels . . . And these
shall go away into everlasting punishment" (Matthew
25:41,46). "The same shall drink of the wine of the
wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture
into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be
tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of
the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: and
the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and
ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who
worship the beast and his image, and whosoever
receiveth the mark of his name" (Revelation 14:10-11).

It is moral for God to condemn those who die in their sins to eternal torment in the lake of fire (note that whatever God does is justified by virtue of His station as Lord of Lords and King of Kings.) Is torturing criminals moral?

I believe that the King James Version is the true bible without adaptions. The other ones like NKJV, NIV, and any more have been re-wrote to say that what people want to do is okay. I truly believe that the King James Version is right....Whats your opinion? Which one do you read?

They say the idea for Christianity came frm something alot older. EX:

Christ/Krishna: Krishna & Kristos orig from the KRST of Africa which was Asar (Osiris). Other names that mean the same are Heru Krst (Horus), Azar Krst (Osiris) & they were all diff names for THE SUN

Ps 84:11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield;
Mal 4:2 But for you who revere my name, the sun of
righteousness will rise with healing in its wings.

That's why Christian hoildays coincide with major solar events

"Judgement day" is the grand marker of the end of the Great Cycle"

Virgin Mothers-Virgo constellation of the celestial virgin

Born in a stabel-At midnight on Dec 25, th sun was in the sign of Capricorn, then known as the stable of Augeus

12 Apostles-12 signs of the zodiac
