Well, I've been mistaken for a crationist a couple of times now, also i got a little tired with the whole fundamentalims in evolution preached around R&S. It all got me thinking.

To my own amezement, i found that, at least for me, there is only one Big problem with the "creationist theory". One thing, and one thing only, really prevent me from considering it seriously. Well here it goes:

According to all data we have acess, all that the field of biology has discovered in the last century or so (genetics, physiology, ecology, botany, zoology, celular biology and studies that target evolution directly), there are, i think, 2 possible conclusions that can be archeived about the origin of life's diversity that make sense according to the data, and they are:

1)All life evolved over millons of years, from one common ancestor. Random mutations were selected by the enviroment (natural selection), the ones that were good remained, the ones that were bad did'nt, and that caused diversity.

2)All life was created from one single event of supernatural creation commanded by a transcendent being (God), already with a wide range of diversity and complexity. Still, given the data, life was created with the clear appearance that it has evolved (although it hasn't), this appearence is very very clear, unmistakable and it simply must've been put there on purpose by the creator, again, given the data there is no other possible explanation.

Well, the thing is, option (2) makes God a liar. For me that is unacceptable. Also I personally think option (1) shows in a much better way God's wisdom and power and its more plausible, but the fact that the "theory of creation" implies that God is a liar is the greatest barrier for me to take creationism seriously. All the rest seems secondary to that.
If someone explains to me, that it isn't so, i'll pretty much have to take creationism more seriously and research about it. Anyone up to the challenge?

(awnsers that say: "but there isn't really any clear evidence for evolution" will not be taken into consideration, given what we now know about God's creation it has to be, either option 1 or 2).

there will be a follow up to this question regarding metodological problems with creationism.

Africa- Now we're talking!!!! =)

well. 1)God is not trapped in time, only we are. 2) Evolution is an extremly beautiful and elegant process, it is not lame. And i believe God did it because of his inteligence and power
I completly disagree, great awnser though.

This reminds me of what Ken Miller (a Christian and evolution biologist) said, to paraphrase: I believe in God, but I don't believe in a deceitful one. Creationists can't seem to answer why God would go out of his way to make it look like the world didn't happen according to the Genesis story (a planet being only 6000 years old, ferns being made before the sun and moon, etc.). I guess they'd rather think of themselves as being made from dirt, not a long and beautiful process.

Oddly enough the only people who claim you have to be an atheist to accept evolution, are the creationists.

The Flying Spaghetti Monster (FSM) created the Universe and all life in 1 second. Of course, scientists will find plenty of evidence to disprove this, but what they do not realize is that whenever they take any measurements, the FSM is changing their results with his Noodly Appendage. The reason? For His own amusement.

This should be close enough to the creationist model.

Or you could believe evolution to be correct. There is plenty of evidence supporting it. There might be a few missing links. But discrediting evolution on the basis of these missing links is like saying that the sequence

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ?, 7, 8, 9, ...

is a completely random sequence because we do not know what is between 5 and 7.

That should be close enough to the creationist model.

If you really want to start believing in Intelligent Design because evolution is only a theory, why don't you want to believe in Intelligent Falling (gravity is just a theory as well)?

* The Theory of Evolution
* The Theory of Gravitation

Option 1 would not show God's wisdom and power. This is how option 1 portrays God: He would be a God that just made a random bang in the vacuum of space (idk maybe he clapped or somethin- clap on). It would then say that he (with all his omnipotence), just created one single celled organism (kinda lame). It also says that he would have waited through billions of years waiting for chance and time to take its place (kinda boring). What kinda God is that- anyone with unlimited power would never do that (im sure you could think of a few things to do with unlimited power besides watch cells reproduce).
Now option 2 would not make God out to be a liar. It just proves that He was smart enough to instill an inborn ability in His creation to adapt.

Diversity would be explained through: the Flood of Noah, the Tower of Babel, and life's ability to adapt in different environments.

There is a TON of clear evidence for Evolution. I interviewed a paleontologist on my website www.pathofreason.com, you should check it out, I also put a link up that will answer all your questions about evolution. Creationism is a myth...because even if the entire universe was "Created" by some mythological figure are you sure it is your mythological figure that created it.

If you want to become a creationist, but can't get past the massive amount of evidence against it - then you have two choices.

Either choose to believe that anything that 'disproves' creationist theory was put in place by Satan (or by God) to trick you into not believing in 'the truth' of creationism.

Or get a frontal lobotomy. (I'll stick to a bottle in front of me).

Don't forget to use statistics before you make your conclusion:

If our existence is improbable so much so that a supreme being had to create us, then the creation of a supreme being is that much more improbable.

I would like to know why you indicated that there is very very clear indication of evolution... any specifics you could add?
