I am a volunteer with an arts program in which I will visit a child abuse shelter 1x a week and bring art projects for the kids to have fun with. The organization I work for has the realtionship with the specific shelter and matched me to them. I have called multiple times to set up an appointment to meet the shelter managers, and have never gottena call back. I finally got through to someone and they were rude asking what do I want and why was I calling? Only to find out she would not accomodate my schedule at all (I provided many options) and passed me on to someone who will be there those hours. Not at all the friendly, welcoming attitude I had pictured. I called the second person who sounded equally annoyed by my phone call, but did pick a time when I can come by. I almost feel like I am being a nuisance to them by volunteering my time with the children. I am feeling a bit down since they do not seem happy to have me, but don't want to complain to the organization. Any advice?

So I made contact with Today's Prophet - you know, that guy who always says religion is nonsense, make a direct, personal connection with your Creator through unconditional love to be happy and so on - to ask him how he felt this could be accomplished, just out of curiosity. I told him that it was spam if he couldn't back it up, since he gives the same answer to every question... and here's his response (note his unconditional love):

Is it a crime to believe homosexuality is OK?
Is it a crime to believe it's a sin?
Why should it matter as long as we treat each other with respect and civility?

It's one thing to have strong beliefs and to stand up for what you believe in. It's another thing to expect everyone else to believe the same way you do and treat those who don't like they're stupid or ignorant or closed minded. That goes for both sides of the issue.

Should we be free to believe as we choose?
Should others be allowed to disagree?
Can we disagree without hating each other?

These aren't science questions. They're not about proving or disproving which view is right. These questions are about freedom, tolerance, respect and civility.

This is in regard to the race issue of Ethiopians.
Helina G, I've read some of your questions and answers Including the one in reply to "Holly" . Helina, it sounds to me that you are racist. You are not white, you are Ethiopian. As an Ethiopian myself, I'm going to ask you to stop this hatred. I haven't met not one ethiopian that said they were white. Ethiopians are indeed black - Just look at our skin, we are dark even compared to italians. Doesn't matter if you have a straigh nose and long straight hair, the fact is, whites will still see you as black and/or non-white. FYI: I still haven't met an Ethiopian that said they weren't black. Gee, Helina, your not black ? are you arab ? no, are you white ? no, are you asian ? no! You are from the continent of africa and you have dark skin and thats that, you are black. Assalaamualaykum. As some of you know from my last few questions I have a 7 year old sister and 5 year old brother who mean the world to me. I am the only Muslim in my family and I would like to teach my sister and brother about Islam and help my 7 year old sister learn to pray so she doesn't get bad credit from ALLAH(SWT). I am considering buying my sister a kid's abaya and hijab and my brother a thobe as well as 2 prayer rugs so that they might learn how to pray correctly. The problem is I know my mother and stepdad won't teach them anything about Islam and I am afraid that my sister will get bad credit for not learning how to pray. Even though they don't live with me I feel like it is my duty as their older sister and the only Muslim in the family to lead them on the straight path so that they will aim their lives for Jinnah and live soleley for ALLAH(SWT). I already plan on trying to teach them how to pray when my husband and I visit them this Thanksgiving but would the bad

I never took biology in elementary school. I took it when I got to middle school. I think that in middle schools, they should offer creationism as an elective so if the kids want to take it they can. Now I fully believe in evolution. I think if we offered creationism as an elective, we could help a lot of kids realize how stupid it really is. If they actually got to sit and listen to that schlock for an hour every day for a whole semester, I think they might have a new found respect for the theory of evolution. Anyone agree????

I need to know if a church is a public place.

Last Sunday when we were doing our thing at church when some folk came and parked their trucks on church space. OK, I´m a Born Again Christian so as you know.

These people said there was nothing illegal because a church carpark is public land. We did not know if they were right or wrong. I got an axe handle and broke their lights anyway. One guy with a new Ford started shouting and spoiling the restful religious vibes, so Pastor Deke fixed his windshield with a cinderblock.

Is there a Born Again lawyer who can clear this up?
