The 73 books of the inspired Word of God were finalized once and for all time in 395 AD at the Council of Carthage. Every Christian on earth used the complete Bible as defined at Carthage, for the next 1,200 years. Today the Christian Bible is exactly as it always was. This cannot be changed. but the protestant Bible has 7 fewer books. The founder of the Protestant tradition intended to throw out 10 books of the Word of God because they contained teaching that plainly showed his new doctrinal ideas to be false - 7 Old Testament books and 3 New Testament books. However, his followers wouldn't hear of throwing out the writings of the Apostles themselves, and Luther had a rebellion brewing, so he backed off and left the New Testament intact. So the Protestant Bible is missing 7 divinely inspired books. If their founder had his way, they would be missing 10, and they would simply believe that those 10 books were not part of the Word of God, on the word of one renegade Catholic priest, just as they now claim that the 7 books removed by him were not part of the Word of God.
It's all or nothing. Either the selection of the Canon of Scripture was guided by the Holy Spirit and was infallible, or it was not. If those who finalized the Canon made 7 mistakes out of 73 - or 10 mistakes as Luther claimed - then there is no reason to think they didn't make other mistakes as well, so we have no way of knowing with certainty that any text is divinely inspired.

66 books, 39 in the OT, 27 in the NT. But the original Septuagint that Jesus used had 72. I suppose Protestants know better than Him.
Tootles, consider this: Protestants SUBTRACTED 6 books, LEAVING 66. Interesting. No???

The inspired scriptures were divided into 66. 39 books are included in the Old Testament and 27 books are included in the New Testament. The books were not divided into chapters and verses until the 1500s.
The additional books that are included in some Bibles, known as the Apocrypha were deemed uninspired by just about everyone with the exception of the catholic church.

There are 66 books they included in the bible at the council of nicea.
maybe another 30 that didnt make it. Some bibles you can get the books that were voted out.
But in the standard king james version. There are 66. But you can still get most of the other writtings that were up for consideration at the council of nicea.
For example revelations is in the bible because 1 person changed their mind. It won by one vote. Most wanted it out. Otherwise it wouldnt have even have been in the KJV of the bible. Making it 65.
*update*
Whoever gave me a thumbs down has not studied the bible, the catholic church even agrees with me. Google the council of nicea. My answer is dead on accurate. It started the roman catholic church.
