It's a BOARD GAME. A toy. An amusement. Entertainment. It's as real as my gold watch and I bought that for 20 bucks. All you people who tell tall tales of possessions and evil spirits and demons and things flying around the room..... Who the hell do you think you're fooling? Maybe some ignorant fundy will take you seriously but people like me who know better sit back and laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh.......
Take it from someone who actively persues the occult sciences, folks: Ouija boards are a waste of time and money.

I'll note almost every tall tale begins with "My friend tried it" or "My cousin had one" or "My dad's friend used one" but never "*I* used one".
Seriously folks. People lie to you about them and you believe it. Silly silly silly.

I've said it once and I'll say it again, PArker Bros. does NOT make occult tools. They make games and toys. Ouija boards are made by Parker Bros. Ergo, Oujia boards are games and toys.

Next you'll be telling me that playing Monopoly excorcises demons, and Scrabble can raise the dead.

love_ya_lotz: You might have had some experiences, even negative ones, but I SERIOUSLY doubt that your board game had a demon hiding in it.

Before you read this, keep in mind we were kids, it was funny, we never meant to hurt anyone and no one ever got hurt.
When I was a teenager, me and a friend of mine used to rig up his mother's house to do weird things. Like, fish test on paintings and other objects that we could pull and make them move or fall, and we put terrot cards on the ceiling fan blades then tie fish test to the chain and run it down the wall to where we could reach it, and turn the fan on, sending the terrot cards flying all over the room. Then we'd make a mix tape of ourselves saying specific things in ghostly voices and put it in the deck to wait until we press play on the remote.
Then we would invite a so-so friend over and dim the lights, break out the star of the night, the ouiji board, and start the show.
We had people run out of the house and never hang out or talk to us in school again, we had people hide under the table, crying for their mothers, real fear. We even had a kid grab a kitchen knife and stand in the corner and threaten to stick us if we came near.
My point is, just because it never happened to you doesn't mean it never happened. It was real enough to them. As far as I know they still think it was real to this day, I never told them.
Oh... but to agree with your main point, yeah, I don't think that it's anymore than one's imagination allows it to be.

I see what you are saying and I agree with you to a certain extent. Especially when it comes to those that no nothing of the occult or have ever even touched a board.
However I disagree with your statement that it is a "toy/board game". Any research into the subject will show that the board was not created by Parker Bros as a toy. It has a real history with occult use. Now as to whether or not the thing is real... there are many explanations to Ouija board experiences. Most commonly that it is in fact the users sub conscience answering the questions.
This makes a lot of sense because your subconscious knows things that your conscious self may not. Now as to possession and demons... that's bull. That is something that people made up to scare people away from a "pagan" type thing. Just like the rest of the bologna that you hear about.
The Ouija board can be a useful tool. But not for what people usually use it for. It is a tool to dig into your subconscious. Not to talk to the dead.
But for you believers out there.... it really can't be proven one way or the other as to whether or not it really works. And personally I have had some strange and even scary experiences with it. Not that I claim to have an answer on the subject but some things I have experienced are a bit unexplainable.

A Ouija Board can be a very useful tool for communicating with spirits. Normally, it gets written off as either a dangerous gateway of evil, or a silly child's game. Properly made and used, it is neither. I am actually working on making one, myself, out of oak. I have found that some of the most outspoken critics of the Ouija Board are occultists themselves. I don't understand why this is, because Aleister Crowley, his student Frater Achad, and others in Crowley's circle actually used them. Crowley was even planning on marketing one at one point, though the plan fell through for whatever reason.
To safely and effectively use a Ouija Board;
1) perform a banishing ritual, like the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram
2) cast a circle, or prepare a circle on the floor in chalk, salt, a white rope, etc.
3) Invoke a deity, and ask your God to protect you, guide you, and facilitate communication with the spirits.
4) know which spirit you want to communicate with, and call that spirit by name. If you know the spirit's sigil, have it present on the board, plancette, or your person.
5) when you are finished questioning the spirit, inform it politely that it is time to leave, and that it should now return to it's plane of origin.
6) perform the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram again. Repeat if necessary.
Open your mind up, man. If you know how to banish, and you have experience working with spirits, there's no reason you can't use a Ouija Board.

Firstly there are such a thing as spirits, entities and odd paranormal creatures like demons. They exist. In fact there is a whole world out there that exists in parell to ours. Many people including myself have had paranormal experiences. The Ouija board maybe a board but they are used in seances and anyone who has been to a seance will tell you there is energy when people are calling up these entities. Ok so you view you board as a game but others have had experiences where they felt they conjured something from another dimension. i believe in life after death and I believe that the "right" person or people could very well invite an entity into their home.

People who don't take the supernatural seriously are exactly why Parker Brothers makes an occult tool that is marketed as "entertainment". I can agree with you on one point, and that is Ouija boards don't cause posessions. Untutored people who draw the attention of entities that they have no protection against, and only half believe in cause posessions. An Ouija board in the hands of someone who only half believes is just as dangerous as the Key of Solomon in the hands of someone who isn't wise enough. You wouldn't give a four year old a sharp knife to play with, people who'se only knowldge of the arcane is what they saw in "The Craft" shouldn't mess with what they don't understand. Fortunatly with Ouija boards they are only putting themselves in danger.

My Ouija board wasn't made by Parker Bros...
But I do agree - "Ouija board possession/ evil spirits/ objects flying round the room" is mass hysteria, and "they all died a week later" is just coincidence. Not to mention all the misguided souls who believe the "you're going to die" messages and end up commiting suicide through worry.
And we all know Monopoly is demonic (especially when trotted out at Christmas, just as tempers are begining to fray).

Yes what is this about these lying pieces of sod? The demon that lives in my ouija board is harmless. He is friendly and hardly ever terriorizes my friends. So okay my house burnt down and everything in it. But the ouija board didn't burn.
See how nice my demon was to save that so that I would have something to play with while living in a tent in the yard.
I never do anything without asking my ouija board and he helps me. Okay so getting pregnant by Snake didn't turn out to be such a good idea, and the boa constrictor that ate the neighbor boy i really wish he would have gave me a big NO to that one. But what about when he told me it would be ok to have a sleep over with the motorcycle gang. That was fun and some of the girls will be out of jail in a year.
So don't be bad mouthing my board.
So why would anyone not want to consult their ouija board?

I have played with it. Nothing bad really happened. However my neighbor downstairs had one. Her house was fine, my upstairs apt became Grand Central station no matter how much I shielded. It was freaking annoying!
People who I know and trust have had bad experiences with it. Do they use one, yes but they are careful to make it themselves with a bunch of protections. ANd honestly, anything that will take and hold a spirit captive, isn't somethign I want to trust. Plus, ghosts aren't likely to give me any more good answers then any other human.
And whats the point of the board if you can talk to them without one.

Maybe it's a marketing tool, hmmmm? Word of mouth advertising. Start an urban legend and watch the profits roll in as people buy boards because....well...maybe they might get possessed or something interesting.

Well, it is a board game, but the history is rather longer that that. Read here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ouija#History
As for the rest, someone named "Betty Sue" is coming through, and tells me to let someone else handle it. I'm leaving anyway...going to take a ride on my broom.
Later!
