i used to think that karma and providence were the same thing. [you get rewarded and punished on account of your actions.] but if that's the case, where does grace [free gift regardless of righteousness] come in?
I was reading the Catholic theologian Anselm of Canterbury, and he explained that grace is something that works alongside free will; in fact, grace helps us but does not compel us to do what is right; and in return, by choosing what is right, we get more grace [i think that's what he meant.]
Is it possible to reconcile that with the doctrine of karma?

And what sources do you use to support your belief?

All religions (or lack of) are welcome to answer, but please do not include whether you believe in it or not, because it's not relevant to the question.

This should be a pretty easy two points.

I'm making a mix CD of songs for a block party a friend of mine is throwing. I need any and all songs that would go good for the holiday, or CDs that you already know of dedicated to this theme :)

And not the obvious, like Star Spangled Banner.

because a lot of times, he just doesn't have a clue. he can be really rude and disrespectful and immature and childish, and just clueless. he annoys everyone around him. i told him this (not in a mean way, but respectfully) and he was a little upset, but admitted he wanted to fix that and change.

how can i help him change to be more respectful, mature, manly, and polite? are there any books out there?

So I got this Gay guy friend. I am a straight female.
Since it is a sin for him to not to be homosexual, but rather partake in homosexual activity I was wondering if it would be a sin if I slept with him just this once so he wouldn't be forced to masturbate and then wouldn’t be spilling his seed?
He also wants to know if you will hurry up and answer this question...

Many followers of the christian belief use the bible as the cornerstone for their morality on social issues; from abortion to capital punishment one will hear that killing is wrong and against the word of their deity.

However, according to their bible, their deity employed a form of capital punishment on the population it supposedly created when it flooded the earth.

How can one rationalize worshiping a deity that does not abide by the same moral standards they do?

If not in person, at least a segment with the Diana & Me? I know that many problems existed between Diana and Charles and the Queen but she was still the mother of heir to the throne. I think it just created a bigger distance between them and the English people.

I put gas cap in car while pumping gas and it didn't stop on its own, spilling $18 of gas, REIMBURSED?

I was pumping gas...I ALWAYS put my gas cap in the pump so I can go inside the store and the gas continues to pump...

well yesterday, the pump DIDN'T stop and there was a HUGE gas spill (about 6 gallons worth -$18 -spilled on the ground).

I feel that it was a malfunction at the pump, and that I should be reimbursed the $18 worth ... how do I go about getting this?

Now this guy at the pump next to me was YELLING at me telling me what I did was a crime and they would have to call the hazmat team. I told him I do this all the time...the gas station attendent told me to leave.

Did I do something wrong???

I feel that I should be REIMBURSED $18 and then some other form of reimbursement for the embarrasement and humiliation the guy next to me tried to inflict on me... talk about a lack of manners!

I'm losing my faith. I had studied the resemblances between dog, human, and chimp. And I figured out that evolution theory is quite logical & acceptable. But on the other hand, I believe that there's no way christianity can compromise Evolution Theory. How can 6 days creation not be mutually exclusive to billions of years evolution?

I had read some books trying to disprove the theory ie Evolution & Creation by Enoch, and Haroon Yahyas but they seem to be too "fabricated" and illogical at some points with very weak arguments.

Please tell me a webpage containing research papers / resources which rebuts the evolution theory in an scientific & analytical way.

I was born of atheists and I am one as are my children. Without the fear of damnation for our heresy, why therefore are my parents considered pillars of the community, I am considered to be one of the most compassionate, dedicated teachers in my building, and my kids are praised by their teachers for being polite and sharing? If god/ religions are the basis for morals, why does my family have them?

*They don't say "the pledge" because it violates their religious freedom and their teachers respect their choice.*

I live in apartments. My building has four units. Im in between two people, who both got dogs the same time. At first they kept up on it...This weekend I was very frustrated that they had left so much dog poop outside. And no clue on who's it is. They are related by marriage, so its unsure when one blames the other. The girl my age Ive said something to about the poop in the past - She said her dog rarely goes out. (which I belive cuz I the dog never comes out, and she has compalined about cleaning up after the dog) The lady (girl dads, wife) She has blunted stated that the poop out side is not hers...But she lets her dog go out all the time, alone sometimes.....
I dont wanna call the manager...They will know its me probably...How should I go about this? (Other than picking up the poop and dividing it up evenly and leaving at their doorstep, LMAO!)

As I cast off the shackles of christianity and explored other faiths along the road to atheism, I could never really go along with the idea of reincarnation either.

The mind is the result of electrical impulses and chemical reactions within the architecture of the brain.

Alter any one of these, and the mind is altered.

Remove the electrical energy from the chemistry and the brain, and all you have is energy.

Do people really think it's reasonable to suggest that this energy will magicly find it's way into a new life at conception?

......or is it later in pregnancy?

Isn't it all just a bit too illogical?
