how what you believe has all of the following assertions which are
scientifically false or impossible !!?

1)- Earth is a circular disk (Isa 40:22).

2)- Earth is flat (these verses were used for centuries by the church to prove this: Ps 93:1, Jer 10:13, Dan 4:10-11, Zech 9:10, Matt 4:8, Rev 1:7).

3)- Earth does not move (Ps 93:1, 96:10, 104:5, 1 Chr 16:30).

4)- The moon has a light of its own (Isa 13:10, Matt 24:29).

5)- Value of pi = 3 (1 Kings 7:23, 2 Chron 4:2).

6)- Sun and moon "stand still" (Josh 10:12-14).

Simply, this shows that the bible is not a science text book, and therefore it does not have to prove scientific exactness.

I agree with 'One hot momma' but if you really want an answer from a Christian. Those who were 'lifted' by the Spirit SAW the earth as a circular disc although this is recorded in other Apochryphal books and not the bible. To say that the earth is established and cannot be moved, is in no way saying it's flat. The moon does have a light of it's own albeit reflected. If it's hidden by cloud it gets pretty dark. How you got the reference for pi I will never know. It has still not been scientifically proven that the earth revolves around the sun and scientific calculations work either way. The God who made the heavens is more than capable of doing anything with it. I would just love to hear you try to disprove His existence when you're standing face to face. Jesus loves you.!

The Bible does NOT say that pi = 3. The brass bowl that the priests used in King Solomon's day was shaped like a flower; it was not a perfect circle. If you took the time to actually read the passage yourself, instead of just parroting something that you cut & pasted from a sceptic's website you would have seen that.

And the idea of the Earth "not moving" in the Psalms is a poetic reference to God ending the earthquakes that plagued Jerusalem. Should have been obvious from the context.

Unless you are a moron, you must have realized that.

These are not your own objections; you are parroting stuff that you cut & pasted from a website somewhere.

====edit===

As for your points 2 & 4, the verses that you quote do not support the point that you are trying to make; there is no place in the Bible where the Earth is expressly said to be flat, and it should have been obvious that Matthew's reference to the "moon not giving her light" is a poetic way of describing an eclipse, or a cloudy night. Did you even bother to check your references before you posted this?

====edit2===
...Verse 26 of 1 Kings 7 says that the vessel in question had a brim which ‘was wrought like the brim of a cup, with flowers of lilies’ (KJV), or a rim ‘like the rim of a cup, like a lily blossom’ (NIV), i.e. the brim or rim turned outward, suggesting the curvature of a lily. It is believed by Bible scholars to have looked like the drawing below...

...Let us consider the details given in 1 Kings 7:23 and 2 Chronicles 4:2. These are:

1. The diameter of 10 cubits was measured ‘from brim to brim’ (v. 23), i.e. from the topmost point of the brim on one side to the topmost point of the brim on the other side (points A and B in the diagram).

2. The circumference of 30 cubits was measured with a line, ‘round about’ (v. 23), i.e. the most natural meaning of these words is that they refer to the circumference of the outside of the main body of the tank, measured by a string pulled tightly around the vessel below the brim. It is very obvious that the diameter of the main body of the tank was less than the diameter of the top of the brim. And it is also obvious that the circumference of 30 cubits could have been measured at any point down the vertical sides of the vessel, below the brim. For a measured circumference of 30 cubits, we can calculate what the external diameter of the vessel would have been at that point from the formula:

diameter = circumference ÷ pi
= 30 cubits ÷ 3.14
= 9.55 cubits.

Thus the external diameter of the vessel at the point where the circumference was measured must have been 9.55 cubits.

It is thus abundantly clear that the Bible does not defy geometry with regard to the value of pi, and in particular it does not say that pi equals 3.0. Skeptics who allege an inaccuracy are wrong, because they fail to take into account all the data. The Bible is reliable, and seeming discrepancies vanish on closer examination...

The Bible is a book used for spirituality and learning the moral code that our creator wants us to live by, it is by no means a scientific textbook nor does it claim to be. When people use the Bible as a science book, that's when things become well, like the Middle Ages.

That being said, I did look up some of those things, and maybe you should read them in context rather than cutting and pasting from a site.

Please don't attack what I believe. There are things you believe in that I might not, but I try to respect other people's beliefs and opinions. I don't go around attacking Jews or Muslims, or even Atheists, so why do you feel like you have the right to do this to Christians?

Don't call me a contradiction believer. I don't believe everything in the Bible. I am COMPLETELY AWARE that there are contradictions in the Bible, such as the ones you pointed out to us. However, keep in mind that the Bible was written around 95 AD. You cannot have possibly expected that the scientific details written in them would be completely accurate. People weren't even aware that the world was round until Columbus, thousands of years later. And though I am aware of these contradictions in the Bible, that is not what the Bible means to me. What I take from the Bible is that it teaches us about Jesus- who he was, what he did, and how to love him and other Christians. I pay more attention to these details than to ones saying that the Earth is flat, okay?

Just because YOU don't believe it, or YOU think it's wrong, doesn't mean that I can't believe it. So please stop criticizing what you don't understand.

????? I'm reading from the NAB. It says:

1) Isaiah 40:22-"He sits enthroned above the vault of the earth, and its inhabitant are like grasshoppers; He stretches out the heavens like a veil, spreads them out like a tent to dwell in." I see nothing mentioning that the earth is a circular disk.

2) Psalm 93:1-"The Lord is king, robed with majesty; the Lord is robed, girded with might. The world will surely stand in place, neer to be moved."
Jeremiah 10:13-"When He thunders, the waters in the heavens roar, and He brings up clouds from the end of the earth; He makes the lightnin flash in the rain, and releases stormwinds from their chambers."
Daniel 4:10-11-"In the vision I saw thile in bed, a holy sentinal came down from Heaven, and cried out: 'Cut down the tree and lop off its branches, strip off its leaves and scatter its fruit; let the beasts flee its shade, and the birds its branches.'"
Zechariah 9:10-"He shall banish the chariot from Ephraim, and the horse from Jerusalem; The warrior's bow shall be banished, and he shall proclaim peace to the nations. His dominion shall be from sea to sea, and from the River [the Euphrates]to the end of the earth."
Matthew 4:8-"Then the devil took Him [Jesus] up to the very high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in their magnificence..."
Revelations 1:7-"Behold, He is coming amid the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him. All the peoples of the earth will lament Him. Yes. Amen."

3) to refer to the 3 Psalm verse you mentioned, they are mean that God places the disk of earth [land/soil] securely on the planet's foundation and then chases away the enveloping waters and confines them under, above and around the earth. This is the footnote I have with Psalm 104:5. With in reference to the Genesis when God created the land and the water. Earth has land and He added water 2nd. The land, not the planet, doesn't move. Early people didn't understand about plates moving under the seas/oceans. We now know that continents do move slowly around the planet. They cause earthquakes when they move. But this wasn't in reference to the planet not moving, it was in reference to the land moving. In reference to 1 Chronicles 16:30-"Tremble before Him, all the earth; He has made the world firm, not to be moved." This does not mean that the earth or land does not move. It is talking about all mankind will stand still out of humility when they see the Truth, that God truly exists. "The world" here means 'mankind'.

4) Isaiah 13:10-"The stars and constellations of the heavens send forth no light; The sun is dark when it rises, and the light of the moon does not shine." Please read all of Isaiah 13. This is about Babylon. This is the warning to the people of Babylon about the day of the Lord coming to destroy the sinners within the city. They will know this day because the lights of the sky will stop. It's also a prophecy of the 2nd coming. In the Revelations, that the world (all of mankind) will know when the Lord is coming. The sky will change so greatly that every living soul will notice. Same with Matthew 24:29-"Immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not ive its light, and the starts will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heaven will skaken."

5) 1 Kings 7:23 & 1 Chron. 4:2-"The sea was then cast; it was made with a circular rim, and measured ten cubits across, five in height, and thirty in circumference." This is measurements to part of a bronze altar that was to be made in the temple. Many times God told prophets exactly how to build things. He told Noah how to build the arc.

6) Joshua 10:12-14 "On this day, when the Lord deliverd up the Amorites to the Israelites, Joshua prayed to the Lord, and said in the presence of Israel: Stand still, O sun, at Gibeon, O moon, in the valley of Aijalon! and the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, while the nation took vengeance on ite foe. Is this not recorded in the Book of Jashar? The sun halted in the middle of the sky; not for a whole day did it resume its swift course. never before or since was there a day like this, when the Lord obeyed the voice of a man; for he Lord fought for Israel." Footnotes to this explains that this day was a longer day of the summer months. The sun shone longer than any other day. That Joshua prayed to the Lord to win the fight. The enemy was known to fight at night, to sneak up on their enemies in the dark. The Lord gave them a longer day so Joshua and his army could fiht longer and kill the enemy before the sun set. This could have been a miraculous day of longer sunlight or the longest day of the year. Every year we have a longest day and a shortest day of the year. This chapter was about Joshua's faith and prayer and the Lord being on the side of the Israelites.

So----What is your point with all this? You haven't proven anything false to me or any Christian with these verses. Why is that?! Because it's the word of God, the Truth. You read some verse and put your personal inerpretations into them and think you can find contradictions or errors or things that scientifically can't be possible. Well, hate to tell you, but God can do whatever He wants. And your personal interpretations are all incorrect.

For a long time people thought the earth might have been flat. That the earth, the world was on columns and a dome over it. But as people traveled they found it it was round with land and water all over the place. God never told mankind it was flat. God never stopped people from traveling. God always told His people to travel to different lands. He was revealing the Truth to them as time went on. He is still doing that. And you can't stop Him.

How does this relate specifically to Christianity? The majority of your hypotheses refer to the Old Testament. Quite apart from deriving from prehistoric times they are part of the Jewish tradition. Have you ever considered the possibility that the intrinsict wisdom inherent in these and similar passages does not neccessarily depend on their literal translation? Can you really believe that our ancient ancestors were stupid?......... If so you are pityable! You were given a brain of some calibre, presumably. Try using it.

If I wanted to do physics revision, I wouldn't use the bible, much like if I aiming to improve my relationship with God, I don't use a physics textbook.
And many of the writers of the books of the bible were called to write them from God and were prophets or scholars, not scientists. If you write a reference, then you are always going to have something that is written from your own influence.
