I just reread Proverbs ch. 1 & 2 and there is mention of foundations. The parable you refer to should be in the New Testament concerning building upon the sand or upon the rock. The rock refers to building our lives upon the sure foundation of Jesus Christ and truths revealed through the Holy Ghost. We will not fail if we follow that counsel. The person who builds on the sand is the person that relies upon the wisdom of man and is blown by every wind of doctrine or philosophy that comes along. Such a life will be in constant turmoil and will surely fail. The house on the rock, build on revelation, will withstand the storms of mankind. The house on the sand will fall when buffeted by the sophistries of man.
Christ often used common example from life to teach spiritual truths. Those that had understanding knew what he was talking about. Those that did not were baffled and turned away from Him.
