Just want to make a point to a friend about asking for translating phrases without giving the context in which it was used.
Please give me as many opinions as to what 'in the red' could mean. The person who gets the one I'm thinking of gets best answer. Everyone else who gives a possible alternative meaning gets a thumbs up. Any opinions?

Why does the bible have an "Old Testament" and a "New Testament"? Didn't he get it right the first time? If he's infallible, why did he need an update?

I myself speak 4 languages (Spanish, English, Tagalog and Japanese) and sometimes when talking in Tagalog I tend to say some words in Japanese or when Im talking in Japanese I sometimes say some words in Tagalog without even knowing that im doing it and its even embarrassing sometimes. My question is how do people that know more than 5 languages not get confused when speaking in a certain language or what do you do so that you wont get mixed up in the middle of a conversation?

Okay, about two nights ago, before I was going to bed, I noticed the closet doors slid shut. It was about 1am when I went to bed and I woke up three hours later. When I looked at the closet doors, one was slid half open. Nobody was in my room at any time during my sleep, because I would notice the door open. My window was wide open as well, and there was a bit of a breeze flowing in, but not enough to slide the closet door open. It's creepy, I seriously don't know what caused it to open. There's nothing in there except for a sleeping bag at the bottom, in the corner. The house I live in is fairly new. It's standing where my grandma's old house used to be. Well, it's a very long shot that her ghost would open the door, because she passed away in the hospital. Maybe I'm just paranoid? But, seriously, it's a bit scary. Well, my grandma was very kind and we have never held any grudges or anything against her so she's out of the question. What do you think?

I recently met a friend of a friend, and we wanted to keep in touch. He arrived in the states aobut 9 months ago. Considering that he speaks with a thick accent, I assume english is his second language, though he speaks it fine aside from the accent... But when we started communicating over email, well, I see that his writing is really immature. He's a college student of 21, but he not only writes in full jargon "how r u." but also doesnt seem able to communicate so well in writing... he's not such an inteligent, eloquent conversationist in emails...

After nine months of living in the states, shouldn't he know to write better than that? Is it just because it's online and he uses so much jargon? Or is it that he cant really communicate through writing, thus the lack of conversation skills?

I like this guy, but when it seems that he cant say much more than "i miss u" "how r u." it's a bit off putting. He was pretty inteligible when we met...
