The Holy Spirit permeated the world after Christ assended into Heaven after his crucifiction. The Holy Spirit is here in the world for all. Pray to God for peace and comfort, and the Holy Spirit will provide you with peace and comfort.

Jesus sends the Holy Ghost to live within each believer forever. But not everyone receives the gift of tongues.

The following passage gives a partial list of the spiritual gifts followed by a series of rhetorical questions which each have the implied answer "no".

1 Corinthians 12:28 And God has appointed in the church, first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, various kinds of tongues.
29 All are not apostles, are they? All are not prophets, are they? All are not teachers, are they? All are not workers of miracles, are they?
30 All do not have gifts of healings, do they? All do not speak with tongues, do they? All do not interpret, do they?
31 But earnestly desire the greater gifts. And I show you a still more excellent way.

Notice that not all people speak in tongues. Futhermore, tongues is one of the least important spiritual gifts.

1 Corinthians 14:5 Now I wish that you all spoke in tongues, but even more that you would prophesy; and greater is one who prophesies than one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets, so that the church may receive edifying.

Almost everywhere the gift of tongues is discussed caution is given against misusing it.

Bottom line: you are not a second class Christian because you don't speak in tongues. And you have as much of the Holy Ghost as someone who does speak in tongues. You've got nothing to worry about.

Speaking in tongues was done away with back in Jesus day. If people are still doing it today, it's not from God, but from some other source - Satan. I wouldn't want that if I were you.

Acts 2:4 - "and they all became filled with holy spirit and started to speak with different tongues, just as the spirit was granting them to make utterance"
They were granted this gift in order that they could preach to others who had different languages. However, if no one could translate, then the person speaking in a tongue was to remain silent in the congregation, speaking to himself and to God.
But Paul explained that these gifts would pass away once they were no longer needed. “Whether there are gifts of prophesying, they will be done away with; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will be done away with. For we have partial knowledge and we prophesy partially; but when that which is complete arrives, that which is partial will be done away with.”—1 Corinthians 13:8-10.

people say you recieve the Holy Spirit when you accept Christ because you do, and because that's what the bible says. the bible also says speaking in tongues isn't necessary, unless it contains prophecy. it happened once, during pentecost, in the book of acts, so that the apostles could preach the gospel to people who didn't understand their own language. the bible ALSO says that the gifts of the Spirit are many, and that we all recieve different gifts. don't worry. Jesus loves you, even if you're not christian, which you are, and that means you have already recieved the Holy Spirit. you don't have to speak in tongues to prove it to yourself, or to anyone else.

Speaking in tongs edifies the Holy spirit it helps to fast and make your body week to make the spirit strong in you, The Bible says that Jesus wishes everyone spoke in tongs, it is communication with the spirit, but it is a gift, Jesus said that is not the greatest gift he has many gifts. healing,Evangelist, the gift of confront to someone. everyone has different gifts but the greatest gift is LOVE! Keep a loving heart even for your enmity's and God will bless you with other gifts.
Remember the gifts that God gives you are just that (Gifts) it is not your own power, the gifts are to edify God and to glorify him, don't let any gift go to your head, It is God working through you to bring people to him, you can do nothing on your own.

Tony,

Don't be worried. The holy ghost's influence is everywhere at every time.

Jesus loves you unconditionally.

If you don't mind answering, it would be easier to answer your question if you stated what religion you were from, then we would have a background of where you're perspective on this question is coming from.

some insight to speaking in tongues.

please know that the holy spirit guides and blesses each individual differently according to their ability, god knows what is best, worry not on what you see in other people but concentrate on what the spirit is doing in your life. even if it seems less than that of others it isn't, look at the people choosen as apostles, look at who he healed etc, he has a role for you focus on yourself and your abilities that you may open your heart to serve him. hope this helped and god bless.

speaking in tongues is a gift not everybody can have. although sad to say that some people just make it up (i said that not to confuse you..but it's a mere fact..sad fact actually) as long as you know within yourself that your faith is strong as long as you believe in God and hurt no one along your path towards Him. as long as you feel His endless blessings. then, there's nothing to worry about...God love everybody..yes, even those who doesn't believe in Him..
