Um HIV/AIDS is God's way of punishing the sinner. I would say homosexuals, but there are plenty of heterosexuals infected, too.

Other than abstinence, 'the rhythm method' where you chart the woman's menstrual cycle is what is used for family planning according to the Catholic church. I think the stance the church is taking in Kenya regarding condoms and married couples, especially with the AIDS epidemic in Africa, seems extreme but that is the church's position, it has been for a long, long time and it will probably never change. They have to follow the church's doctrine according to the Catechism. It doesn't mean it's 'practical' according to contemporary times, it just means they are sticking to there guns because of their doctrine. If they were to condone the use of condoms in Africa, even with the AIDS epidemic, they have have to do it everywhere and that's not what they believe. No sex before marriage - no adultery - no abortion. If folks don't agree with the doctrine, I would suggest they adopt a different doctrine - that's what I did.

The Catholic Church values life first and chastity second. This is reflected in her teaching about abstinence, condoms, and AIDS.
Judeo-Christian tradition has taught for thousands of years:
1. Single people should be celibate.
2. Married people should be faithful to each other (adultery is wrong).
3. Married couples should welcome God's gift of children and, therefore, artificial birth control is against the will of God.
If the world is going to ignore teachings about chastity (1 & 2), then why is the world so upset about teaching artificial birth control (3)?
People who are already ignoring the more important teachings about chastity (1 and 2) should have no problem ignoring the less important teaching of artificial birth control (3).
Even if a person infected with AIDS was to use a condom to help protect his or her spouse, condoms are not 100% effective (read the box) and the spouse may be infected and die anyway. A person who truly loves their spouse would not endanger them in this way.
In regards to sex outside of marriage, the Church makes it a practice not to tell people how to sin. Fornication with or without a condom is still fornication. Adultery with or without a condom is still adultery.
With love in Christ.

In the interest of saving lives by not spreading HIV/AIDS, don't be so willing to exchange the 100% effective techniques of chastity and abstinence in exchange for something that is only 70% effective?
A chaste lifestyle, abstaining from sex, is 100% guaranteed NOT to result in the spread of HIV/AIDS, not to mention a host of other social ills as well.
Condoms, among other kinds of artificial birth control, are at best only 70% effective.

As a disillusioned former Catholic, i say the (short) answer is "yes."
The Vatican has affirmed that even if a couple is *married*, and one partner has HIV, they are still not allowed to use a condom. Abstain or die. Lie to the people about condoms if you have to. (Bishops have done that!) Pope Benedict is reportedly pondering reconsidering that rule.
What's to ponder???
Not that they don't have their reasons for this perverse policy. They have an elaborate theology over the place of sex in God's plan (see _Humanae Vitae_) that works *in theory* but is as brittle a house of cards as i've ever seen.
Banning condoms to uphold an abstract idea while real, non-abstract people are dying by the millions? Saying that abortion takes a life, and then banning contraceptives? Valuing the life of a cluster of cells over the lives of real people with incurable diseases? Holding the threat of hellfire over American Catholics who voted for an anti-abortion but pro-choice ("safe, legal, and rare") pesidential candidate--while not saying a word to Catholics who voted for the candidate who pays lip service to anti-abortion while pursuing social policies that increase the *demand* for abortion, and who started the real live shooting war (that the Vatican opposes) based on lies? Burying their heads in the sand and denying that there's any overpopulation?
This is the same church that routinely refers to its top female saint as "the Blessed Virgin," and describes some saints as "virgin and martyr," completely ignoring what they actually did while they were alive. Glorification of death and deprecation of sex. The Church's priorities are crystal clear. If the Catholic Church is pro-life, then President Bush is a pacifist.

The AIDS virus is 25 times smaller than the male sperm cell. Condoms can and do fail. Sometimes to rubber ruptures or the sperm cell pass through microscopic holes in the material. Now, if the sperm cell can pass through, won’t the AIDS virus also do the same much easier?
Abstinence? Name me another other method that 100% guarantee you will not get pregnant or contract AIDS.

People are brain washed. Many of these stupid rules were made by men. I have never red anywhere in the New testament anything about not having sex or having it for the sake of reproduction or love. Every religion in the world is under the influence of some high priests who believed they were “holy” enough to bring their rules. Thousands of children die daily from AIDS that was inherited from their parents. Are they to be blamed for their parents’ sins? If we see a criminal drowning in the river, should we save him from drowning or let him die and get his deserved punishment for his sins. People are imperfect and that’s it, and we are all brothers before God whether we are good persons or bad and He said “blessed is the one who grants his life to save the brother” so it means we have to save people and help them no matter if they are having sex with the f… horse or spouse, they deserve help and not to be left to die in their sins. I am very religious person but unfortunately all religious institutions (church, mosque, synagogue) are not right in many things they do and they make more evil than good (Muslim holy war, Inquisition, forcefully turning people in Catholics what was the case until recently in the history, the thing you mention with condoms). I am not an imbecile not to recognize good from bad. Every human has a soul and this soul knows good from bad, it’s just the matter if you listen to it or not.

The Catholic Church believes life counts most.
The sexual acts of husband and wife MUST fulfil God's will mandated in Genesis 1:28. Sex without the purpose of "making" a child is not morally acceptable. In fact, sex as mere expression of love for the partner is insufficient if not immoral.

has it occured to you that these diseases are spread more because people didn't and don't stick to the catholic teaching on contraception? sex is for married couples to conceive, contraception promotes same sex relations, pre marital sex with no intent of marriage and multiple partnerships. it is the rampant and selfish acts that cause the diseases, if people practiced the catholic church teaching these things would be less rampant. you are so flawed on so many levels. this and your other questions clearly show your agenda and lack of understanding, not only on contraception but your prejudice to the catholic faith, if you are "christian" you may wanna research what being a christian is.

A lot of them deny that HIV is the cause of AIDS, a lot of them are convinced that AIDS is punishment for sinning and shouldn't be prevented.

They think that "if you are a good Catholic you will not be doing anything to get AIDS/HIV."
Good thing they test the blood now.
It's an old belief that sex is only for making babies with your spouse.
