What does lack of free will feel like?

2007-06-08 04:31:45 · 15 answers · asked by Anonymous in Religion & Spirituality

ok how about Issac, Abraham, Sollomon, Adam....etc did they worship the trinity or only the God who sent them?

ok how about Jesus
"my God, my God, why haven't you forsaken me?"

"Hear O Israel, the Lord is our God, the Lord is One".

17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

"The LORD he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else. " Deuteronomy 4:39

See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me. Deuteronomy 32:39

But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him. 1 Corinthians 8:6

Christians = throw the words of Jesus away, and let's believe in trinity anyway. let's pick the verses that fit with what we believe and ignore the rest.

Every religion has their well studied theologians who know the original texts, etc...

Every religion interprets scripture differently. Many theologians from different religions will look at the exact same verse and come to different conclusions.

Which is correct, and which is incorrect?

Baptists, Presbyterians, Methodists, United Church of Christ or Assembly of God...of the protestant religions...which is correct.

then compare protestant to Catholic?

Catholic to Muslim, Jehovah Witnesses

Jehovah Witnesses to Mormons.

Please don't give me the he who believes that Jesus is the son of God and was raised from the dead, etc...I know the scriptures....and all protestant churches believe this...but, they split over other issues...so which is wrong and which is right?

Is it required to send a thank you note to someone when they are present ( no pun intended) when the gift is opened and a thank you is expressed at that time. Also thanked when the person leaves.

I don't think so....

When you get saved, the Holy Spirit enters in immediately (Ephesians 1:13-14).....and the darkness has to flee.

Darkness cannot co-exist with light.

Your thoughts........ Christians only please, thank you.

Okay, So I work in an emergency room and so I am constantly coming in contact with people from the community. It drives me up the wall when people can't pronunciate correctly or when you ask for them to spell they say it so fast you can't understand them. Also, why do people go into a public place without bathing. I swear the average person that walks into my office hasn't bathed in weeks and their teeth are NASTY! What the heck are they thinking!

Why do so many fundamentalists call people atheists when they do not agree with them?

Are they so pious to think that only those that believe the way they believe are true Christians?

Aren't you playing God, when you pretend to judge another's heart...and isn't this blasphemy?

Finally, an atheist is someone that does not believe in God...my viewpoint may be different than yours...however, atheist would be the wrong supposed insult to use in any case, as I obviously do believe in God. I just do not interpret scripture in the manner that you choose.

Your thoughts?

The package store closest to me has an XXX store next to it. I was walking out of the package store last night & saw a man leaving the XXX store with a big bag. He looked so familiar and then I figured it out - it was my priest in regular clothing.

I quickly took a cell phone snap shot with him holding the bag with the XXX store sign in the background. I took the picture because I didn't think anyone would believe me. Anyway, my priest knows I saw him.

Now I have a dilemma, I always owe taxes each year & am strapped. I want to use this picture to my advantage. I'm going to tell the priest I will expose the picture to the church community unless he gives me receipts stating I donated substantial amounts of money to the church. That way I can have some relief around tax time.

It is not like I'm asking the priest for money, this is simple for him. My wife is sickened by this and says what I intend to do is blackmail & monstrous.

How can I get her to see this is to help us?

I've recently seen a preview for a movie that seems to be one long stream of fat jokes. Do you really think it is justified to laugh at the morbidly obese? Even if you argue that it is because our problems are largely self-inflicted (which is only partly the case), why don't you make jokes about heroin addicts or people who slash themselves?

In Western Europe (which is the part of the world that comes closest to the American society), with a little imagination most nations can be seen as Christian Nations. Simply because in ancient times most people were Christians in those countries.

In these days 7% of the Western Europeans frequently visits a Church. Among those 7% are Christians but also Muslims.

America will, of course, go into this same direction. We can see that the younger generation are less devout Christians, or not even Christians anymore.

How long will this 'hanging on to history' last? If in a hundred years only 5% of the population is Christian, will they still be screaming about what a great Christian Nation the USA is?

I'm asking, because I fail to see the purpose of claiming a nation to be Christian of nature. Don't people make a nation? Or do nations make people?

adam the first creature, called the son of God as well:
Luke 3:38
.... which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God.

and if you insist that Jesus is a virgin birth which makes him different than Adam, then what do you think of this animal who also is a virgin birth?
http://www.livescience.com/animals/061220_virgin_births.html

do you think Jesus is any different than Adam? do you think Jesus hasn't been created inside his mother? who created Jesus eyes, hands, legs, arms and organs? do you think because Jesus had a virgin birth then that makes him the son of God. didn't you know that God is all powerful able to do all things. just like how God created Adam from dust, Eve from rib, and Female Komodo Dragon from Virgin Births, so is God is able to create Jesus from a virgin birth.

son = an honor servent to God NOT God baby.

I know Biblical literalists believe there was no death or destruction on Earth before Adam sinned (Romans 5:12-21 and I Corinthians 15:20-26).

How have you reconciled this belief with the theory of evolution and an old earth?
Do you believe natural disasters occured before homo sapiens existed?
Do you believe animals were carnivorous before humans?

Bible states that the period of the mother's ritual impurity is twice as long if a girl is born than if a boy is:

“Tell the Israelites: When a woman has conceived and gives birth to a boy, she shall be unclean for seven days, with the same uncleanness as at her menstrual period. On the eighth day, the flesh of the boy's foreskin shall be circumcised, and then she shall spend thirty-three days more in becoming purified of her blood; she shall not touch anything sacred nor enter the sanctuary till the days of her purification are fulfilled. If she gives birth to a girl, for fourteen days she shall be as unclean as at her menstruation, after which she shall spend sixty-six days in becoming purified of her blood”. (Lev. 12:2-5).

The Catholic Bible states explicitly that:

“The birth of a daughter is a loss" (Ecclesiasticus 22:3).

In contrast to this shocking statement, boys receive special praise:

"A man who educates his son will be the envy of his enemy." (Ecclesiasticus 30:3)

Jewish Rabbis made it an obligation on Jewish men to produce offspring in order to propagate the race. At the same time, they did not hide their clear preference for male children:

"It is well for those whose children are male but ill for those whose are female",

"At the birth of a boy, all are joyful...at the birth of a girl all are sorrowful",

and "When a boy comes into the world, peace comes into the world... When a girl comes, nothing comes."

A daughter is considered a painful burden, a potential source of shame to her father:

"Your daughter is headstrong? Keep a sharp look-out that she does not make you the laughing stock of your enemies, the talk of the town, the object of common gossip, and put you to public shame" (Ecclesiasticus 42:11).

"Keep a headstrong daughter under firm control, or she will abuse any indulgence she receives. Keep a strict watch on her shameless eye, do not be surprised if she disgraces you" (Ecclesiasticus 26:10-11).

It was this very same idea of treating daughters as sources of shame that led the pagan Arabs, before the advent of Islam, to practice female infanticide.

The Qur’an severely condemned this heinous practice:

"When news is brought to one of them of the birth of a female child, his face darkens and he is filled with inward grief. With shame does he hide himself from his people because of the bad news he has had! Shall he retain her on contempt or bury her in the dust? Ah! what an evil they decide on?" (16:59).

It has to be mentioned that this sinister crime would have never stopped in Arabia were it not for the power of the scathing terms the Qur’an used to condemn this practice:

“He hides himself from the people because of the evil of that which is announced to him. Shall he keep it with disgrace or bury it (alive) in the dust? Now surely evil is what they judge”. (16:59)

“And when one of them is given news of that of which he sets up as a likeness for the Beneficent Allah, his face becomes black and he is full of rage” (43:17)

“And when the female infant buried alive is asked for what sin she was killed”(81:8-9).

The Qur’an, moreover, makes no distinction between boys and girls. In contrast to the Bible, the Qur’an considers the birth of a female as a gift and a blessing from God, the same as the birth of a male. The Qur’an even mentions the gift of the female birth first:

“To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. He creates what He wills. He bestows female children to whomever He wills and bestows male children to whomever He wills” (42:49).

In order to wipe out all the traces of female infanticide in the nascent Muslim society, Prophet Muhammad (S) promised those who were blessed with daughters of a great reward if they would bring them up kindly:

"He who is involved in bringing up daughters, and accords benevolent treatment towards them, they will be protection for him against Hell-Fire" (Bukhari and Muslim).

"Whoever maintains two girls till they attain maturity, he and I will come on the Resurrection Day like this; and he joined his fingers" (Muslim).

“One who brings up three daughters or sisters and is patient in earning for their maintenance till the time they will be married (…) He and I will be in Paradise like this” (Saying this the Prophet (S) showed his index and middle fingers joined)”

And people asked him: “O Messenger of Allah, what if he brings up two of them {daughters/sisters}?”

He (S) replied: “even if two”.

“What if a man brings up only one daughter?” people persisted.

“Even if eh brings up only one daughter or sister” replied the Messenger of Allah (S). (Bihar al-Anwar, Vol. 104, p.99)

Religious types, answer me this.

No evidence has ever been found for gods, demons, angels and any other supernatural creature associated with religion.
Intelligent design theory, just so you are aware, I think is a load of pap and nothing that evolution of species didn't manage.
Science constantly finds evidence backing natural evolution, but religion has no evidence of divine creation.

Yet in spite of the utter lack of proof you continue to try to convert the rest of us 'poor souls' to your various religions.

I'll convert to the first religion that can show me incontrovertable proof of their deity's existence. I expect I'll be non religious for the rest of my days with that simple little challenge.

In the meantime, why do you believe so readily in something you can't see, hear, touch or feel? Blind faith does not fill me with great hopes for humanity, so if that's the only answer you've got, don't bother answering.
