Is it impolite to just ignore it....or should you fess up and apologize?

It is less embarrassing to just let it pass and hope that no one notices. Just stay away from the foods that are deadly and if one slips out, you do the same and let the remaining people figure out who passed the gas.

Yes, you should apologize and fess up then excuse yourself to take something to settle the problem.

That depends on the quantity and frequency of the gas. If it is just one or two and I think I have gotten away with it then I would ignore it. If we are talking beans for breakfast lunch and dinner quantities, I would comment and then excuse myself before I created an environmental hazard.

If it's that bad, you need to excuse yourself and go take some Gas-X.

No one wants to hear you fess up. It just makes the situation more embarrassing for all. How would they respond? "Oh gee, I thought that was you!" or "Hmm, what did you eat for breakfast?"
