My boss has asked me to compile a list of information on rock stars he likes. I have no interest in doing that, and it has nothing to do with my job. It's not what I was hired for. Do I really need to do this or how can I gently tell him I'm against it?

paste a smile on your face and do it ( if you love your job)

OK, I had a boss who was far meaner than yours, he would ask all sort of things, and whenever I did a better job at what he had asked, he would ask for more errands, so the bottomline is, as one of my coworkers told me, is to make a really bad job of it, do it the worst you can and tell him it was the best you could do, maybe then he'll know you're only good at doing your own job. Good luck

Your boss is taking advantage of you, and he knows it. I don't think telling him - gently or not - is going to change his attitude that the people beneath him are his underlings and he can treat them as he wants. I suspect that if you want your job, you're going to have to just swallow your objections and compile the list.

First go ahead and do the stupid job. Now when finished you let him know that you will not do something like this again. Also if you can tell his boss about the incident.

My boss asked me to take her keys, go to her apartment, pick up a pair of shoes that she purchased and return them to the store for her.

I told her I felt it was beyond the scope of my responsibilites. She has kept my work business related since...

I'm a little behind in my work.
Do it, but give him way to much info.
Do it, and remind him of your "added responsibilities"
