If Fundamentalist/Evangelical Protestants know what they believe why do they have to wait for their pastor or preacher during a service to pose the question "can I get an. Amen?" before affirming their belief?

I've seen this over and over and yet the same people who are being led by the preacher will claim "Catholics are brainwashed". Isn't it interesting that Catholics respond at Mass knowing when to do so and how to do so everytime and therefore are participants in Christian worship whereas non-catholics (Anglicans and Lutherans excluded)
tend not to be unless the pastor orchestrates it! Who are the real zombies with pen in hand for that all important note talking during worship?

I would say 90% to 95% of the time I will go out of my way to be respectful to people. I see no point in doing otherwise.
And something is bugging me slightly (not going to lose sleep over it or anything) but I wanted to share it.
I have read in this section for some time now and I have read countless times people say that people that believe in God kill in the name of God , they abuse children, they steal, cheat, destroy others all in the name of God.
Well while this is true that some have done so.
To be so smart, practical , and free thinking- Do you not think that it is exceedingly chimerical to believe or say that people who believe in God are the only ones who do such things.
Or to be of the opinion that everyone who says they believe in God are absolutely unalloyed, or Genuine?

OK IM DONE.........SORRY.

Be blessed

Okay, so I grew up 100 yards away from a huge southern baptist church in my hometown. I was raised there and was forced to attend church twice on sundays and once on wednesday.. with that in mind..

now that I am grown I don't feel as strong of connection to GOD as I once did. Im in school with a major in IT so I like scientific stuff. For me, is there a GOD that created humans and the earth and everything? Possibly. Did humans evolve from bacteria? Possibly. I just don't know.

Is this normal? I don't want to call myself atheist, (my parents would kill me) but I just don't know about all of it. Any advice?

A book mentions a man 2000 years ago who supported what was essentially democratic principles of Justice for all, treating everyone fairly and everyone being equal at a time when democracy didn't exist as a concept, way of life or form of government or practice? Pretty good going for someone who didn't exist.

Can't you see it's because we are trying to save you, just like you are trying to save us from that hell your God condemns us too.

Whats with the double standards? If you don't like me preaching my atheism to you, why do you do preach your stuff to me?

This question is mainly directed at the religious people who come out with that "Believe in what I believe or you burn in hell" rubbish.

I'm doing a little of my own research because this was an issue for my ageing mother. I would like to hear a few more stories and opinions about whether an ageing person is better off staying in their own home for as long as possible (using all the community resources such as nurses, meals etc.)
My concern is for someone on their own who e.g. cannot get out in a car, has stairs and cannot cook well for themselves.
I have been taught as a trained nurse that people should be encouraged to stay in their own homes with care from local services. I guess boils down to the actual person's own wishes but most people DO want avoid moving into a retirement home, especially a nursing home!
My opinion is that if their own home is safe and they can function well they should stay there. However, I just wonder how I'd feel going to ANY new environment, with no familiar faces and without my own items, furniture, pet/s and garden around me. How awful for an old person!

What is the one thing ALL poor nations have in common? Two things: Poverty and lack of jobs. It is also true that the smaller the country, the higher percentage of poverty and lack of jobs.
The United Nations and other countries donate BILLIONS of dollars every year to aid in the problem, but it continues to get worse. Why? Because throwing money at the problem does not solve anything. It does not teach family planning, it does not educate, it does not create jobs. (Okay, it may help a little, but not nearly enough the make any difference)
It does not seem to me to be rocket science that continually having 4,5,6 or even 10 children per woman only compounds the problem in these countries.
While I do not mind some of my tax dollars going to help on occation, we are now encouraging dependancy of the poor nations on us and the UN. The problem will only get worse.

How should we go about correcting this problem? Throwing money at it will not work indefinately.

That we are a skeptical society?
Belief aside we as a whole are largely skeptical.
We often use phrases like
I'll believe it when I see it .
I wonder what makes us so mistrustful, doubtful and even suspicious of our fellow man?
