Young people have an innate desire to belong to and feel accepted by a community of their own. I older days it was the Boy's Club, Scouting or something like that. There was even a period when guys joined street dancing groups to break dance competitively. All of those things are either out of style or considered dorky by your peers. In some cities you don't have sports programs or AJROTC. All of these organizations are really social organizations that gives order to young people's lives while they figure out what to do with your lives.

The liberals and socialists who dominate our education system decided you don't need religious orgs (too judgmental), or sports (too competitive) or JROTC (too patriotic.) So in the absence of positive outlets, what choices do you have? Apparently, the schools approve of gangs (an expression of "their culture.")

That's why you see wanna-be gangstas.

Well, being from Los Angeles, I would say gangs are a very real and violent threat to our local society and society at large. In fact, gang activity in LA has risen substantially over the past few years. "I see wanna be gangs and all they do is talk s*** and dont (sic) do anything" is Middle America's infatuation with urban or street culture, however they are not educated enough to know the difference between reality and MTV. Gangs are dangerous and can hold a neighborhood hostage by making the residents scared to leave their homes after dark or during the day, for that matter. Here in LA, property owners will erase a tag left by a gang member in order to try to prevent them from marking their territory. Because when the gangs move in, everyone else's quality of life goes down. Unfortunately the "wiggas" we see in most suburban neighborhoods don't get it and try to emulate what they see on TV or in a movie. We have become a dumbed-down culture despite the extensive access to information we have. People take what is fed to them and don't ask enough questions. There are some beautiful things to come out of urban culture like graffiti art, hip hop and fashions. Gangs is not one of them. The little suburban "wiggas" would pee their pants if they were to actually be dropped off in a real gang neighborhood. And many of them would be scared in an urban setting period, not understanding the dynamics of how a city interacts and how most people are generally good people and we all want the same: to love, to live and to laugh. So the wanna be gangs are really the gonna-pee gangs. They have no clue.

My perspective on gangs is that these people are nothing but teens and young adults who seek attention. Evidently they weren't given enough attention growing up and this is the only way they know how to get it. They find other people in the same situation and instead of getting sympathy, because God forbid a male show weakness, they form a group and instill fear in others. They feed off the fear others have of them, it's all a control thing too. Also the whole gang situation is like they finally have a "family." They don't understand that there are better ways of dealing with the past.

it doesnt bother me because it has died down CONSIDERABLY!! Back in the 90's gangs were very prominent everywhere and that's all you heard about. Now a days its died down alot. I think people automatically put gang members in a bad light. WAIT i'm not defending WHAT they do at all!! But, people forget to stop and look at WHY people join gangs. Young teenagers join gangs early sometimes because they have no one at home who sits down and helps them, or tells them they love them. so they go out and "look for love in all the wrong places" You'll see little 8 &9 yr olds in gangs sporting gang colors and throwin up gangs signs. Now, how bad is a 8 or 9 yr old? How is it there fault they have no where to turn. Maybe we need to start looking at OUR SOCIETY and looking at WHY our youth is joining gangs, maybe we'll see its OUR fault!!

If you go back and read your question I'm sure you'll see many grammatical errors.

Who in their right mind wants a gang anywhere near them? I know I don't. Any decent-minded, common-sense person does not want anything to do with a gang and wishes they never existed. Blah..
