Can't you see it's because we are trying to save you, just like you are trying to save us from that hell your God condemns us too.

Whats with the double standards? If you don't like me preaching my atheism to you, why do you do preach your stuff to me?

This question is mainly directed at the religious people who come out with that "Believe in what I believe or you burn in hell" rubbish.

Its called being a fanatic. The funny thing is that a fanatic doesn't ever see themselves as a fanatic.

They are blinded by what they think is right.

An element of fanaticism is the desire to make other people believe the same thing that you believe.

Another element of the fanaticism is the tendency to destroy or discredit what ever they think is the external problem of their ideal.

Does this shoe fit for anyone?

People need to realize the difference between what they know and what they have read or been told.

Perhaps instead of "preaching" one could just "present" and then people could take what they want and leave what they don't.

I don't really have a desire to "save" anyone or attempting to nudge another into my personal beliefs, but then again you have a good point.....

Being a non-Christian, when being preached to, normally I would say the typical "proper" response would be to let them know that I respect their wishes and politely end the conversation as soon as possible. However, I can imagine if I attempted to argue my point of view or tried to encourage them to believe what I believe, they'd be pretty upset- as I have seen many Christians get when they are questioned. (Not all, and please- I do not mean to offend anyone!)

I have never though about it before, but yes - it does very much seem like a double standard to me! (But that is my opinion, of course!) Though me, personally, I still don't think it would be worth the effort to try to change it... I think if their beliefs work for them and help them lead their lives in a positive manner there is no harm done, and at the same time explaining to many when they try to "save" us that there is a double standard there would be like beating a dead horse, and it's not as if it's causing me any kind of actual anguish anyways.... I think I can cope with it and still be nice about it.

Hell means grave in Hebrew. Even the hell fire enthusiasts have taken it out of the old testament. Fire is used for refining of gold throughout the Bible, refering to the refinning yourself or you'll be refined in a way you wont like by someone probably not so gentle, but arguing not to be "a superfine apostles". Most people are in a narrow niche whether they 'call' it 'science' or not. Beats thinking. Religion, also, is still in considerable disarray. Hangover from the Dark Ages. Asking most evangelists to explain the bible is like asking an applied scientist to explain how Einstein got E=MC square. They can't. No bible thumper looks that deeply, although they should to be professional. lol Some study, but only what their denomination tells them to, and that's all they see. They use very little objective analysis. Since it's in plain English they don't get the incredible depth of scriptures. And they don't follow the plain English either. It doesn't seem practical. And, as the saying goes, "A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing." Not that they don't have the most basic knowledge, like the formula, but you can't live on milk forever and that's pretty much that's all they know. Not laughable, sad. Shameful really. On the other hand by the general definition of religion communism and science can be a religion to some and they can be just as dogmatic and dumb as a anyone else also.

Atheists don't believe there is a God and they have a right to believe what they want to, as do the Christians. Christians try to save you, because they want you to believe there is a God and they are doing His work here on earth.Christians don't want to hear there is no God, because they know there is a God. That God created heaven and earth and all things. That is the Christians proof. They believe that the Atheists have no proof that there is no God. God loves all His people, even the ones who don't believe in Him!

It's not " believe in what I beleieve." Though it is " Believe in what God's WORD says." I can't save you. No other child of God can save you. Only the Lord Jesus saves. But just as He sent the minor prophets to warn the people, otherwise face His judgement. The same is true today. You can either choose to listen to the trumpets being blown or you can choose to be lulled to sleep by satan's lies only to awake in eternal fire. I, personally, want you to choose the Lord. But unfortunately, I can't make that choice for you.

as a catholic
i can understand where these people are coming from
they actually whole heartedly believe in what there doing
as a bi i have to say they can be annoying

some of these people are hate mongerers
with no idea about the world
some are genuine loving people who (perhaps misguidedly)seek salvation and help for others they think have strayed
hate the sin
love the sinner
it goes for them too

"It's not US who saves you, it's the Holy Spirit" [denial of personal responsibility]

"It's only our job to preach the gospel" [We are simply incapable of preaching it to each other or to ourselves, we need to seek out people who think differently from us because we are certain they are wrong and with enough bullying we may convince one or two]

"It's your choice" [I don't recognize that you might have made a choice already and don't think you can make that choice without me disturbing your peace]

"What is the benefit of not believing, I want Jesus in my heart" [I also want you to think the same way as I do and can't see how arrogant that is]

How can you save us by making us believe that there is no God? I would rather be wrong when I die and have Jesus in my heart then to die without him.
Besides take a look at the history of all those who believed in atheism. Some major names in the past have cried out to God at their death bed and they all wished they had God. They died without peace. One of them was Thomas Payne who wrote the Age of Reason. He was quoted that he had wished he had never wrote the book Age of Reason.

It comes down to one point. We will all live for eternity. Either with God or without. You will find out the hard way that without God is a place nobody wants to be in. Hell was meant for the devil and his angels not us. But God gives us free will to decide. In the end we will all stand before God. Will you have somebody to back you up why he should let you into Heaven's Gates?

It must be the christian double standard. Your question is a good answer to the christians that ask the question - why are there atheists on here? The christians say-let me remove that speck from your eye, while having a large rafter in theirs. It must make them blind as to their own faults.

Blame it on the teachers of their faith. They preach but neglect to remind them not to insult those who have yet to "see the light". They are set in their ways, just as you are...nothing either side can do or say to convince the other. But I see your point, and I agree. We have that option to choose to believe or not to believe. How I decide to choose needs to be respected just as they expect their path to be respected...
