That we are a skeptical society?
Belief aside we as a whole are largely skeptical.
We often use phrases like
I'll believe it when I see it .
I wonder what makes us so mistrustful, doubtful and even suspicious of our fellow man?

I am practical in my thinking and realize that we should not believe everything said to us........thats not what I mean....I am speaking of our first reaction to anything, even if it appears true we tend to be shy of it.

I imagine they said the same things before the great flood and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. They'll believe it when they see it.

It is good to be skeptical. Being skeptical doesn't mean just not believing something. It means expecting a bit of evidence that something is true before committing yourself. It is not the same as being cynical.
This is yet another way that religion has harmed society. It has made people too credulous. We follow the party line without thinking, far too often. We laud emotional attachment to an idea and push back on scientific education.
It's too bad we aren't skeptics more.

Because this is a Liars World. Haven't you noticed who the big winners are? Don't tell me you believe the bullshit about how hard work makes you successfull? Hard work puts more money in your boss's pocket not yours. You don't think they are going to share with you do you?
It is also why I hate religion. Those who wrote it are happy for you to live by the religious beliefs they have given you. It means you will never question, you will accept all your problems and you will believe that Jews are the Chosen.

I think because Man has mistreated man now forever it seems. We are distrusting of each other and some are distrusting of everything, everyone except those who have proven time and time again to be trust worthy.
I think skepticism is mistrust on a lighter level... being a little leary... I believe that trust needs to be earned and I also believe that God asks you to trust him.... pray to him and wait for the answer..... I have, he's proven himself to me many a times and I trust God... but trusting something you can't see takes faith

To often mankind is and has been fooled by smooth talkers. A skeptical mind is always good when charlatans are selling you things you can not see.
Right now people are willing to commit suicide and kill others for their imaginary god, is that not immensely sad. It makes me so sad to see all the useless killing in the name of an imaginary being, sad, sad, sad.

I see this but I also see a lot of people living in skepticism of others but not themselves.
This could be a sign of hypocrisy or worse, a need to correct other peoples beliefs but to not touch yours.

Colossians 2:18 says:
"Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind."
An angel is a messenger and the kind of worship here is threskeia, which means external religion, ceremonies or rites. I think that people spend so long setting up ceremonies with which to welcome messengers that they just fall in love with their own ingenuity in setting up their lifestyle that way. Not only are they not interested in the messages, they also like to talk about what they "would have" seen. Therefore, there's not much input going into their lives, and not much searching for it going on either.

Plain and simple: Disappointment at the hands of our fellow man. That is why I have a theory there are so many angry(hurt) Christians and Atheists in the world.

well of course you need a certain bit of skepticism...i see nothing wrong in believeing once you have evidence and not before/....i mean if you go ahead and believe everything, where do you draw the line?
if i told you that i have pink and blue polka dotted dragon in my garage, would you believe me?
you're idea of what may be true may not be everybody's idea...and also, unless you're initially skeptical about something, how do you KNOW that it's the truth?

Because people lie. We can't even trust our own senses. They can deceive us. Skepticism is a good thing. It causes people to question what they think they know and maybe get just a little closer to the truth.
