how many of the people who participate on programmes like Jerry Springer are Christians? Indoctrination aside, how much is being a christian down to intellect (lack of) ? Have you also noticed, on YA's, how much more educated the atheist's answers often seem ?

I don't really watch it, but confess, whilst channel surfing I have been momentarily mesmerized by these 'people'. To the Christians who have answered thus far, my thanks for your aid in proving my point.

Dear I am going to add something to your analogy. Jerry Springer is televised on the FOX Studios network with the rest of the Republican shows too. Go figure with the mentality, I do believe that Jerry Springer himself, is still the brightest one of the batch though compared to Pat Robinson and the 700 Scam Club.

The reason so many Christians -devout ones- seem to be unintelligent is because there is not a single verse in the Bible that emphasizes knowledge and the acquisition of knowledge.
Coupled with a sense of 'contentment' at having received only religious education, and the stagnation of the mind through the constant repetition of the same teachings over and over, without questioning them, without being able to explain them in their own rational thought, people have literally become brainwashed in their own static thoughts.
And have given atheists and anyone else, a good reason to make fun of their mental incapacity.

I'm laughing at the person who couldn't spell intelligence properly and was being a idiot to others
Atheists are educated and moral, there isn't a book to tell people how to act or that it's ok to be homophobic whilst protecting paedophiles like the pope does

I think that the answer is that the atheists have turned to theories that exist in formal education, and have even had to defend their own positions to themselves - to convince themselves that they have 'legitimate' reason/case not to believe in or follow a God ; so they have learnt better, how to rationalize and argue from an academic body of theory.
You have to remember that formal education has been 'forced', by Law, to become 'secular' and even materialistic, as it is required by state that no 'spirituality' should be entertained, and fostering a 'belief' or even a specific religious persuasion of any kind is illegal.
So, academics have been forced over countless decades now, to go to the non-religious sources and 'persuasions' for their teaching material.

Are you serious? You really think a person who appears on Jerry Springer is actually Christian? Then you probably believe the rest of what you see on that show. You know that show's as scripted as a sitcom right? Saying I'm a Christian doesn't make you one. Being atheist or religious is no indicator of intellect, only of a certain viewpoint.

Just who are you trying to flatter here!
I find Springer and his people hard to believbe. Yes I know there are people like the ones on his shows but when I am outside looking at the world they seem pretty rare.

Anyone can SAY they are a Christian. It is there actions that will help one recognize if they are truly living for Christ.
The Jerry Springer Show is NOT the place to find true Christianity.

How about this: if you're unintelligent or intellectually incurious, you won't think critically about what you were taught. Most Americans were raised Christian, so most intellectually incurious Americans will remain Christian. If the relative frequency of Christianity and atheism were switched, you'd tend to see dumb atheists on Springer.

*Raises hand*
Question - I'm not atheist - I am not Christian.
Do my Answers seem ignorant to you or educated?
I'd like to believe that I am spiritually enlightened though I can fully understand why someone would chose to be atheist and I don't condemn anyone their chosen path.

It's not so much a lack of intelligence, Mia, it's the fact that by having 'faith', people tend to stop asking questions about anything at all, and they just mentally drift. They have lost the habit of dialogue and query. They have faith, so there is no need to do anything any more. Dreary, but true.
