There much evidence in the histories of all religions that they are all man-made stories. There is also a lot of evidence that people readily believe supersitions, myths, urban legends, and other nonsense. It is known that they believe because they are emotionally drawn to the idea, even though it opposes evidence and reason. And it is known that an emotional attachment to an idea is stronger than a rational attachment. Humans have been emotional animals for far longer than rational ones.

On the other hand, there is no evidence of any gods existing. Even worse than that, there is no real definition of what a god is. People can't even say what it is they are believing exists. That's why religion relies so much on faith, i.e. wishful thinking, and cute slogans. When you can't be factual, being poetic helps in convincing others.

Studies, like that done by the University of Michigan, and featured in the Discovery Channel program, The Amazing Life of the Human Brain, shows just how amazing the human brain is.

Every second while awake, we are absorbing 40MBs of data per second. That’s 144 gigabytes per hour and about 2 terabytes per day. That’s a lot of data even for the largest computer. When we sleep at night, and only at night or under nighttime conditions, all that data is sorted and stored through the creation of synaptic connectors and biochemical bounds. The brain has enough volume to allow for the creation of these storage connectors to last over 10,000 years.

I should also note that a recent study has found that it doesn’t happen while dreaming, but just before it. Your consciousness completely shuts down in the same manner a program pauses while saving a file.

Without the need of a creator, what evolutionary pressure could bring about the need for this much volume that would take that long to fill? Clearly, man was either created by God to live that long, or if evolve, once lived that long, and has since de-evolved to what we are today. Which do you think it is?

Also, consider just how much longer it would have taken to evolve to the point where humans lived for 10,000 years. People would have matured slower and took much longer to reach the child burying years, so generations would have passed slower, stretching evolution out to trillions of millenniums. Evolution would have needed to start some time soon after the Big Bang.

Evolution does take place, in that animals have evolved and humans have de-evolved since the time of the creation. Many divergent species are related, such as the Meerkat/Hyena and the Lion/House cat. A house cat can breed with a lion, I wonder if the same is possible the Hyena and Meerkat?

This is why I believe in God. I use the brain he gave me, and designed for me, to determine something beyond imagination.

I don't believe in God because the the poor die (huge majority of people) while Jews prosper. Don't believe you'll do as well as a Jew in the afterlife, you are just a naive and trusting "lamb" for the slaughter. And don't believe their lying and posturing. It remains a Liars World and Jews know there is an afterlife and you are the joke.
PS. Forget the Nazi genocide. It's just a drop in the ocean of the history of man. Always a great opportunity for Jewish publicity. Yet for some reason there is no outcry about the millions of Jews murdered by Stalin. Perhaps that's because the "Russian Mafia" of Brighton Beach are actually the Jewish "Russian" Mafia and you wouldn't want to think there are still a couple of million who are still alive and moving to America as quickly as Jewish solidarity allows. It's only when they get caught that we will start getting the stories of how Jews were victimised by the Russians and how everything the Jews did there should somehow be minimised. And how they are all apparently dead, and most of their children are dead. but miraculously some freak lived to write the story and hundreds of millions of people believed the story.
PPS.
Argentina and Uruguay are already Jewish states. Why is no American interested in why this is so? No interest in why Jews have made their next home here? No, I guess not.

Edit
Moonrider, if you mean " I believe in gods and spirits" and not "I believe in god and spirits" then I agree with you.

I do not believe in the typical Omniscent Omnipotent God otherwise sofference would have never beginned.
I do believe in a Pure Nature that manifest in Wisdom, to become enlightnened is to reawaken in onselve that Pure Nature and if in a uman form manifest like a Buddha or a Saint....
Why is then not everything just Pure Nature? It is potentially but Karma made this dream like that.

I don't believe in a single all-powerful god, because it makes no intellectual sense for me to do so.

I assume you actually mean the Christian God. Well, believing in a supernatural father-figure who is going to come soon and reward all the good children by taking them to the park, and punish the bad children by locking them in the cupboard ... that makes no sense to me at all.

The universe is a much bigger and far more interesting place than how it is seen from the narrow viewpoint of Christianity.

Nobody can prove any gods, much less a specific god, exist; many people will tell you their god exists but no others, but will never be able to prove it, even if they think so. Some will threaten you with eternal pain or promise eternal joy to get you to believe in their god; these are all stories, created for people who were scared long before we understood the universe. Now we have no more reason for these superstitions.

I believe in a higher power for two reasons.

First of all, according to the big bang theory, everything was originally in a compact little ball. In order to make it explode to create the universe we now have, there had to be some additional force of energy.

Secondly, even if we assumed that all the matter in the universe could just come from nowhere, and that it could all develop in the the stars and planets and rocks and everything else we have, that initial spark of life seems to me scientifically inexplicable. The fact that there is life, and consciousness, is, to me, proof of something greater.
