I would say 90% to 95% of the time I will go out of my way to be respectful to people. I see no point in doing otherwise.
And something is bugging me slightly (not going to lose sleep over it or anything) but I wanted to share it.
I have read in this section for some time now and I have read countless times people say that people that believe in God kill in the name of God , they abuse children, they steal, cheat, destroy others all in the name of God.
Well while this is true that some have done so.
To be so smart, practical , and free thinking- Do you not think that it is exceedingly chimerical to believe or say that people who believe in God are the only ones who do such things.
Or to be of the opinion that everyone who says they believe in God are absolutely unalloyed, or Genuine?
OK IM DONE.........SORRY.
Be blessed

Paul, its almost as if people think if people who believed in God would not exist the world would be this wonderful place to live in. I think anyone who thinks that way is not very practical at all.
That is just how I feel about it.

rev are there not atheist or agnostics or what ever you want to title it, in the militaries?
I am not understanding why anyone, no matter who they are or what they believe will make a blanketed statement about a group instead of looking at the individual. I dont believe ALL atheist blame believers on the worlds problems.

True believers , do not like hypocricy in any form coming from anyone and believe me when I tell you that they hate it the most coming from a person who claims to be a "christian" or "believer".

mountain , thank you for your comment and yes I can .
Very few people are currently showing the true love of God . Sure they say it in their words but not deeds...........and this is not something I have perfected, I MYSELF am still working on it. But this place has sure opened my eyes to some things I need to work on in my life.

Certainly no one has a monopoly on immoral acts. That is ludicrous to say. I have seen, time and again however,Christians say statements to the effect"If God doesn't exist,I'll go kill everyone I hate and live off the government in jail"This leads me to believe they actually WANT to do those immoral acts, but since God is watching...I can pull up so many statements to that effect. Do you understand how one could come to that conclusion after seeing answers like that constantly?

Belief in God is imperative to most spiritualists because it requires the doing away of your egocentricism.
In otherwords, you neutralize all effects of your ego (selfishness and all that stems from it) with the sheer knowledge that the love of God requires that.
However, talk is cheap.
If youre a person whos ego has not been neutralized, and if you justify your actions by saying its done for the sake of God, then youre nothing more than a hypocrite, or stuck in pretense at best.
Many goodness would come if people could see the fine line between real selflessness vs mere talk of it.

Don't apologize, Contemplative. You have the right to ask such a question.
Whenever there is discussion about something which can never, ever, be proven or disproven, tempers will rise. Religion is such a personal thing, and the more unsure you are of your belief, the more you shout about it, as much to prove it to yourself as to "spread the word". That's the real reason accusations fly here. It's at least interesting, if you don't take it seriously.

Had a little something to get of the chest, did we? So what you're trying to inform everyone of is that Christians aren't as bad as they seem? I'm pretty bad, and I'm a Christian. Still working on that. The good thing is that I'm no longer in a performance based relationship with God, I'm actually a Christian now.

It is wrong for anyone to be unkind to anyone else.
If I were standing in a store resturant and a person
who didnt believe in God started talking to me and
I became aware that they didnt believe in God, I
wouldnt just start being rude all of a sudden just
because they didnt believe like I do. I dont think
anyone should , no matter what they believe or
dont believe.
Too many of us judge others for things we shouldnt.
We all make judgements and judgements can be good.
But to judge a person because of what they believe
or because maybe they are mentally challenged or not as smart as you are, or because they have some type of handicap is wrong , again coming from anyone.

Religious beliefs don't filter out human behaviour. People doing anything "in the name of God" are simply not taking the responsibility for doing it because they wanted to.
This works both ways... if someone does something good and positive "in the name of God" then it may be that they are modest and it feels right for them. And if someone does something considered bad or negative, then they are trying to shrug off the responsibility of doing what they simply wanted to do by invoking the name of the nearest popular deity.

No problem. Hmmmmm some of the logic isn't there. If you believe in God and do these things... are these people saying that they're doing it in the name of God just because they believe? For instance if they rob a convenience store, they say, "I'm taking all your money in the name of God!" Just kdding.
All humans, whether they believe God or not are capable of many evils.

Since ancient times, triad worship has been used as an excuse to build buildings that let some representative people "die well."
Then there are pagans, who do things because of land-based and territory-based considerations.
Habakkuk 1 shows that God can raise up people to execute vengeance even though they don't worship him. They trust in the strength of their own gods.

No need to apologize. You're right. Not every Christian has the right idea about what it means to be Christian. Neither Christ not Christianity as a whole can be blamed for this. It's very important not to universalize anything. Even the beloved atheists who we commune with in this forum.

No - Christians are not the only group of people who have killed or committed atrocities in the name of what they believe. However there are those who do claim that Christianity or Islam is the only moralizing force and the only peaceful people. This is blatantly a nonsense
