Old Testament says an eye for an eye. Yet the New Testament says turn the other cheek. Which is to be followed? Also the Koran has similar contradictions. Are these books, written by men worth the paper they are written on?

...that they think a man will be tempted to have sex with a woman if he even sees her arms or legs? Surely it is all what you are used to?

Men in Britain/America may get a bit lustful over a girl in a miniskirt, heels and a cropped top, but there are ways of dressing modestly that are less extreme than what Muslim women wear. Why not just long-sleeved tops and long skirts?

My aunts rotate every other year hosting Christmas dinner for the family. We have about 35 people come each time. I just found out that in order to come and have Christmas dinner at their house you have to pay $15.00 per family to help cover the cost of the food. Is this okay to do to your family members? Wouldn't it be better to have potluck or decline to host the party instead? Neither one of aunts has money problems that I know of. I am considering not even going to Christmas dinner this year because I feel really bothered by this. Am I being crazy, or do they have a right to do this?

People must've asked that question 10 times last night. I don't mean to be rude. Really. But don't people ever look at the list below your question that tells you how many other people just asked that same question?

why do SOME muslims seem to be too dumb to realise that if they hide their face, they are going to be looked upon with suspicion and mistrust, and that this is nothing to do with religion per se [or 9/11 7/7], but is an almost instinctive response in western culture.
i cannot believe immigrants are unaware of these facts after 30-40 years presence in this country.
i know in muslim countrys to be covered is to have anonymity and be ignored...but to wear the same here draws attention to her body and so defeats the object..surely?
it makes me think either theyre so removed from me because being insular makes them disrespectful of my cultures sensitivities......or it is some ill conceived attempt at religious self assertion.
why would anyone deliberately seek to assert themselves in a way guaranteed to make the host culture uneasy?
have these people never heard of the phrase "shooting yourself in the foot"?

Some one asked a question about aliens and this guy on yahoo answers said aliens were real. So I checked out his profile and he was not obsessed with aliens and his question/answers seemed level headed. That gave me pause to wonder, so I asked this question. I am inclined to think not, but I try to keep an open mind.

Yes, defense is fine, but starting a war? For petty reasons, or for territory, or for natural resources...
People die in wars. I know the religious of you probably believe in an afterlife - but I do not. And killing someone is the most terrible thing you can do. Killing thousands of people? No one should have the power to start a war without their country's consent - not just the armed forces.
To me, these people have simply stopped existing. They aren't alive, anywhere, except in memories. Young men who could've had so much more of a life.

Muslims i am a convert and there are many things that i personally have not been able to research can someone help me with the interpretation of 4:34

4:34 Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because God has given the one more (strength) than the other, and because they support them from their means. Therefore the righteous women are devoutly obedient, and guard in (the husband's) absence what God would have them guard. As to those women on whose part ye fear disloyalty and ill-conduct, admonish them (first), (Next), refuse to share their beds, (And last) beat them (lightly); but if they return to obedience, seek not against them Means (of annoyance): For God is Most High, great (above you all).

-this is something i have wondered about myself and a non-muslim also questioned it in another question of mine

*i know this is a translation but i am still in the process of learning Arabic so your help would be appreciated

asalamwalaikum,
Sakina

The followers of this religion call themselves Psychedelic Pandites and they worship a giant Panda made from yogurt while on acid, and conduct their ceremonies wearing nothing except for dildo-helmets made from technicolor jello.

I suppose it must be, but isn't it strange that the donations collected are primarily (or even exclusively) used to finance the charity - church - rather than to actually help other people or animals, as other charities do?
