why do SOME muslims seem to be too dumb to realise that if they hide their face, they are going to be looked upon with suspicion and mistrust, and that this is nothing to do with religion per se [or 9/11 7/7], but is an almost instinctive response in western culture.
i cannot believe immigrants are unaware of these facts after 30-40 years presence in this country.
i know in muslim countrys to be covered is to have anonymity and be ignored...but to wear the same here draws attention to her body and so defeats the object..surely?
it makes me think either theyre so removed from me because being insular makes them disrespectful of my cultures sensitivities......or it is some ill conceived attempt at religious self assertion.
why would anyone deliberately seek to assert themselves in a way guaranteed to make the host culture uneasy?
have these people never heard of the phrase "shooting yourself in the foot"?

For a start, there is nothing in the Koran which says that women should hide their faces.
Assertion arises from negation. Since all Muslims in the UK seem to be suspected as potential terrorists then more Muslims feel they should not be persecuted in this way and want to make a stand. 'Yes, I'm a Muslim'. Making laws against the Hijab, Niqab, Burkha and Chador will only exacerbate the problem.
This whole problem has to be cooled down. Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists and Christians have lived alongside each other in the UK for decades. Let's try to get back there. Forget the pre-conceived, ill-informed ideas and start talking. Only dialogue can solve this problem.

This is some of the most ignorant s*#+ I've heard in a while, Women cover up for modesty, so men won't view them as "a piece of ***". You say it draws attention to her body, ok fair enough, but what do you see? Nothing because the clothes aren't tight fitting or reveal any part of the body. If you go out in town on a Friday night you can see for yourself oher woemn who wear mini skirts, you can see evrything on display no need to use my imagination. But hey if you want to do that's fine by me, but just because women Muslim women say "I don't want to display myself in this way" you call them ignorant?

To whom is it disrespectful that a women covers herself up? To men? Just becuase I live in a society, doesn't mean I have to confirm to everything whether it is right or wrong. Emigrants that live here take on many things and try to fit in the best they can, but we refuse to leave what we know is right.

Cultural insensitivities? The veil was never an issue before 9/11, they only time the veil was used in an argument was by Christian Missionaries to make Islam look barbaric. So you see it's never been the veil, its the ideology and power it represents that you fear/ dislike.

Now for the comment about libraries, left by an answerer, who the hell do you think you are? Where do you think one of the oldest univeristy in the world is? The Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt, graduates where the big black cloaks like who the Middle Easterns they are called what Alumini from the root word Alim (Scholar). Who was they first to map and discover blood circulation William Harvey no a Muslim Physician name Ibn al-Nefis.

So do not think you are better than any Muslim, who are your doctors, your engineers, your accountants, your business men and solicitors? MUSLIMS.

i imagine a pedaphile should be imprisoned for 25 years to life. the more serious the crime the further the size of the sentence jesus suggested in case you offend one toddler it will be extra useful a millstone be tied round his neck. than to ever be born. somthing like that. yet for NON invasive crimes, 25 years is purely too harsh in my view. adult men can triumph over all sins in the adventure that they have got a substitute of heart and are born again. that's suited to murderers and all kinds of sexual immorality. save in ideas many adult men are moved upon by demons and fallen angels and spirit possession or ideas administration. of this I actually have no doubt what soever. the version is how a lot is sufficient to convict for life and how little is sufficient to save on with the commandment of forgiveness which jesus describes as forgiving even those that despitefully use you! 70 circumstances 70, each day!!! or how lengthy previously you're taking someone to court and get the demise penalty. contained in the e book of mormon there's a tale of a conflict of two tribes (countries) the position one tribe has made vows of by no ability lifting a sword. this tribe surely has those who lay down on the floor contained in the way of the invading military and after many human beings were being killed with out resistance the invading military began to provide up, seeing no resistence, they are defined as having a substitute of heart and a conversion, the those with love gave their lives for others and the human beings that lived and remained received the human beings who had switched over. devil continually confuses the topics and divides hairs and the mercies of christ are perpetually even although there are sins unto demise, there remains forgiveness in case you have authentic love. i dont imagine i'm blowing wind right here. i imagine that's substantial doctrine.

my cultures sensitivities, what cultures do you have if you are a Caucasian, Barbecue, apple pie & cheverolet, the proplem you face is you haven't relized that caucasians are no longer the main stream soceities, why because we stand down & let other rule our country. So I can't understand why you would be offeneded. it's all over for us, we let all the other races take over just to be politicly correct.

I agree with you 100%.
I am sure the Muslim women also understand this. But they have to continue to cover themselves because of "peer pressure".

Simple way to deal with this issue......refuse to talk or acknowledge someone who covers their face.on the basis it is threatening and making you feel uneasy. Personally I think covering your face is being ignorant to others.

Do what Jack Straw did ...make them unveil to speak to you.

dude....lemme ask you a question....

where did you learn that those who cover their facrs are to to be mistrusted? television? books? the news?

and exactly how much of that stuff do they have in muslim counties? think of a library....your local one...now think of a library in the middle east....difference?

the thing is is that they dont know any of the worlds history. their history books are spread down from word to mouth and usually deal with their family or area. they dont have history to look back on as an example of what not to do. so theyre gonna make the same mistakes in their ignoracne.

the reality of the matter is that were dealing with "caveman stupid". (thanks Adam Carolla) thats it. theyre not educated. they dont think logically. there as basic a peoeple as possible.
