It drives me insane, especially when I go out of my way not to use my mobile phone when I am out with others. But I'm not sure...maybe it is not considered rude to do anymore, just because everyone has a mobile phone now a days?

In Yahoo! News there is an article regarding only 1 in 20 British people remembering the correct year that slavery was abolished.

My question is this: In a modern multicultural society that not only protects the rights of black people, but also every other known race, religion and sexuality, is it really a valuable thing to remind non-whites of the horrific treatment suffered by them 200 years ago?

I for one would have been more comfortable if it were a remembrance of the people that died and were abused during the years of slavery. A celebration of the end of it just seems to open fresh wounds and cause people to thing that they have done something wrong. This took place TWO HUNDRED YEARS AGO, sure we should remember, but is it something that needs to be dragged into the press and used as a perpetual reminder to black people that although they are now treated the same as any other Briton, back then they weren't?

For the record, I'm white, in case anyone wondered.

What makes you want to pick apart a persons image, music taste, or whatever else? Does it give people a boost of confidence? I just don't get it.

In my opinion it is insignificant:

Consider for a moment that this one death is supposed to save all Christians from eternal torment. So let’s be really conservative and say throughout all history that amounts to 100 million people. One life for 100 million? That’s nothing. How many fire fighters have given their life to save just one person? Yet we don’t see people flocking down to firehouse #11 to worship them.

Anyway, it is something to think about.

And please, no sarcastic answers like "a penis". I'm not talking about what makes one MALE..I'm talking about what makes one a "man", as in the GENDER. If you took a genetically born male and castrated him, would he cease to be a man? So..sex organs don't define our gender...so, what then, "makes a man a man"?

couldnt think past physical evidence, that they are obtuse? But one that cant comprehend proof at spiritual levels can have faith in science that proves that something just really isnt wrong. Have they personally proven this thinking themselves? (I'm not trying to offend anyone)

Maybe someone can explain (without resorting to quoting text) just so I can understand a thumbs down from a previous answer...
I accept that Christians believe that they will get preferential treatment when they die - this is evidently difficult to prove or disprove! But supposing a Christian and an Atheist have exactly the same 'problem' on earth, e.g. they both want their mothers to be cured of an illness. If only the Christian prays (even though his mother may not be a Christian), does this mean that God will only consider doing a favour for his mother and not for the atheist's mother?

What do people think about the fact that because the state that I live has a constitutional amendment against same sex marriage, that is the reason my spouse and I have to live in sin. The state has mandated us sinners by virtue of this constitutional amendment.
