I am moving to Istanbul and am scared to death. Not of the people. Just that I dont know anyone. I am moving alone and I dont even know the language. I love challenges but I may be in over my head??? I wonder if the have a really good Shrink when I get there. I am gonna need it. HaHa. Any suggestions to ease my worry?? Oh, I am Christian. What about worship?? I am southern Baptist. Dont think they have that kind of church there.

don't be afraid! You are not alone!

I have never lived in Istanbul, but I have a great deal of international living experience, and here are some universal tips which may help you.
1. Register with the US consulate as an American citizen living in Istanbul. They can put you in touch with the American community there so that you can associate with other people who speak your language. They can also provide you with valuable tips for living there.
2.There are Christians in every part of the globe. All you have to do is look. There are even Southern Baptists in Istanbul (see link)

I am sure that you can ask your pastor, and he can get you in touch with the Southern Baptists there through the Convention.
3.Take everything as a learning experience. Seek opportunities to learn more and understand about the culture.
4.Have fun! I am very impressed that you are taking this step alone...many Americans aren't willing to risk living in strange places, but I think it is a GREAT EXPERIENCE!
Best wishes!

It could feel pretty good if the group/area/etc you originated from is well-liked or respected by the host country. It could equally suck if not. What really sucks is being treated with disrespect/hatred/etc by your OWN countrymen and women because you resemble a maligned group or are a visible minority in your country of birth.

You want to make sure you don't try to convert anyone.
Buy a copy of the Quran and read it. There is a passage there where they are ordered to kill anyone who would try to convince them to leave Islam.
Normally you should be okay as long as you play it low key.
They shouldn't have any more craziness for approximately 4 years. (Don't know how I know that, it's instinct I guess.)
