(Though often accused of being an atheist, I'm actually agnostic.)

Atheists: don't you make assumptions about the "god" issue that can't be tested or proven in any way?

Isn't it true that absence of evidence =/= evidence of absence ?

Why do you assume that no god exists if you can't demonstrate this?

Does it all come down to Occam's Razor and parsimony to you?

Isn't there a logical possiblity that you're wrong?



(that was fun... it has been a while since I picked on you guys! Know that I just want to see your perspectives ... I'm not attacking... I'd say that I'm playing the "devils advocate" but some nutjobs here go berzerk when they hear that term)

They can demonstrate thinking-therefore-i-aming with all their clever sign language I read about in National Geographic in 1978, they nurture their young and often mate for life: they have a society structure...there must be a place for them Heaven in that case surely. Religion endorses sharing values, caring for the young, the exhibit all these things

However, they okay natural law and murder each other, kill their children, throw poo around and display homosexual tendencies when their mood arises...they are definitely going to hell then, right?

How do clever monkeys fit into the general scheme of things then?

is it wrong for me to ask for prayers from christians for my wife? she was just diagnosed with level 3 cervical cancer. she is only 34. she is the mother of my 2 children and although we are no longer together she is my best friend and i still love her. i have caught some flak for asking from some christians for asking for prayers because i am a pagan. i was asking all faiths to send a prayer or a good thought for her. so i ask was i in the wrong?

Science has exploded with its contribution to humanity over the past 2000 years. Humans live on average so much longer. Contributions from technology, medicine, information, communication, discoveries about the universe, education, health, travel, food, the list is endless.

Religious people are quick to suggest that God gave humans the ability to use science to help humanity, and therefore God deserves the credit.

In the same vein then, what has God helped religion achieve over the past 2000 years?

I posted this on a slow board last night, and wanted to get additional perspectives:

If life starts at conception, as the prolife movement states, then fertility clinics are probably the site of more "killing" than abortion clinics.

if you're not aware, a much larger number of embryos are fertilized than a couple can use in these clinics because of the high probability that they won't survive. And the leftovers are discarded. Even those "moral" people who refuse to have them discarded pay to keep their leftovers frozen forever... so even then the idea should be monstrous... keeping a "life" in suspended animation indefinitely (isn't death preferable to that anyway?)

to be blunt, one flush in a fertility clinic probably carries away a month's worth of appointments at an abortion clinic.

Some religions are against IVF, but the clinics are never protested.
So, why aren't fertility clinics protested against?

but I am a female!!! Every day, I go to get my internet "fix" (check out the name...and no this isn't an ad for this website) and have purchased a couple of dvd's as well. The DVD's were okay, but didn't get played more than once before i tossed them. The more anal action, men being "broken in" and when i see that they are enjoying it and not just going throught the motions, the more turned on I get!! Is it weird for me to get off so much on ebony gay porn (regular porn does nothing for me, nor does lesbian porn)?
