Wouldn't it make more sense to take a stimulant when depressed?

I'm not looking for an answer that explains alternatives to alcohol, however. I want to know the psychological aspects at work here, and other reasons why people would consume alcohol after becoming depressed beforehand.

Is there any way to be less emotionally sensitive, to be emotionally stronger and have "thicker skin" so as not to be so easily hurt by other peoples' words and attitudes?

for example, a man in the pub earlier said that women were equivalent to "vermin" in his eyes. i have heard other men say similar things over the years. and some violent pornography available supports this feeling

I saw a man on the bus acting strange in the presence of his little daughter, I sort of sensed something wasn't all right in their relationship and I wanted to talk to the guy but even if something sad and bad was happening there, how would I prove it? Today, I saw a guy kick his dog and when I threatened to call the police he wanted to hit me and I am a girl!! What do you do when you see such terrible things happen and you're alone and no one would stand up for the kid or the animal? These kind od situations really p*** me off because I love everything that's innocent & needs protection. And other people are so selfish, they don't see what's going on because they don't want to.

It seems selfish to me. And yet, it sounds logical.

In times of sorrow, people seem to shun me. But when I laugh, they laugh too.

I feel awful, because I have seen people who appear to be sad before, and although I WANTED to ask them what the matter was, I didn't. I think I felt anxiety, because I wasn't sure that I could help them.

Why do people do this? Is it in our nature?

OKay I need to know because in this dream i was at my ex friends house and I had to go downstairs to get soemthing and there were zombie's in the livingroom trying to get at me, they were slow shuffling people with rotting flesh. I ran out of the house and suddenly I'm in the park by where I live and there's no one there in the dark. i breathe out and I see one a small glint of moonshine off it's rotting bald head. I scream and I'm in it's face, I mean RIGHT IN IT'S FACE!!! so close there's no space ebtween me and it. Blood shot eyes and it smells terrible. So, what exactly am i so scared of? is this from playing too many videogames?

To me it is all part of the socialising which takes place putting more value on the male. The notion that women are 'more bitchy' has been proven to be false yet this myth prevails and women en mass reject their own sex and defend/revere and seek the approval attention of men.

I like men - don't get me wrong - well the good ones anyway but I wonder how much of this statement which I hear all the time is explained in the following psychology experiment -

At age 3 children are offered a black or white doll. No clear preference at that age is shown. By 5 even the black or asian children opt for the white doll by and large. Shockingly they have internalised the notion that white is better due to cultural influences - does the same happen with gender?
