Depends on what you mean by intelligent. Intelligence is defined as the ability to apply knowledge to manipulate ones environment or to think abstractly. In reality, there are many kinds of intelligence. Scientists, Musicians, Artists, Psychologists, etc are all examples of people with a degree of intelligence in one certain field. In my opinion, what it boils down to is how your brain processes information. Some people are just gifted in that their brains can "make the connection" between what they know and what they are experiencing for the first time. They can learn and figure out problems effortlessly where someone less gifted would have to put forth more effort to reach the same conclusion. That doesn't mean they both wouldn't eventually have the same knowledge. Intelligence is really a measure of how fast one gets to that destination.

The only limit to your intelligence is how intelligent you let yourself be. But a lot of people confuse intelligence with the ability to memorize other people's ideas and the ability to talk out of your a$$ if you don't know anything about the subject you're talking about. True intelligence, I think, is forming your own thoughts, ideas, and theories about you, others, the world and universe and how they all work together.

With some it is merely a matter of studying harder than others. It helps immensely if a person has a natural curiosity about the world..
In the case of people like einstein, it is purely physical. he insisted his brain be donated to science for examination and what they found was amazing.
Where most people have several connections between the left an right half of the brain, Einstein had about four times as many connections. And there were more connections between cell within the brain as well. He once described how he solved problems. He saw them as pictures in his head!!!

A recent discovery program I watched said there was a very strong link between intelligence and proper nutrition (especially vitamin A) for children aged 1-5 years old....one reason why 3rd world countries continue in a quagmire....malnutrition at those crucial ages causing a continued substandard intellectual level in the population.

is a perception of degree, a model of space which

Because some of them have very open mind, and willing to learn anything new. Others either just gave up or too stupidly complacent and they get more and more dull by the hour because they're not williong to use all 100% of their brain.

Patience.
Sure, it helps if you have good genes, but my mom dropped out of high school, and my Dad went to the Navy. Both make less at work than I do.
I think it takes dedication, patience, and above all, hard work. It also helps if you have a keen interest in WANTING to learn.

I believe it's the environment they are in, how much they learn by reading, studying, and their upbringing. It's also a desire to learn and to gain knowledge to succeed in life. If a person does nothing then he learns nothing regardless of his genes or not.
