UK Ministers are considering outlawing paying for sex, to try to counter international human trafficking. They're looking at what Sweden did in 1999: Sweden made it illegal to buy sex, but decriminalised the sale of sex. Why? The idea was that prostitution should be regarded as an aspect of male violence against women and children and therefore tackled. Swedish men are arrested if they are caught buying sex, but prostitutes are not arrested for selling sex.

The US has outlawed prostitution in most states. Some US states and countries have legalized prostitution. Sweden has a mixture of the two. What do you think should be done about prostitution?

As far as I can remember, they've all been RIDICULOUSLY weird.

A couple nights ago: My boyfriend and I were sleeping in my bed, but then we had to move because one of the first presidents was over and he needed a place to sleep. So we went down stairs on a futon, and for some reason he was being really loud, and I was trying to get him to stop. Then I noticed there was huge ants, and bugs in the bed. So we had to move out on the deck, where, for some reason, there was a bed. He was being loud out there too. Then there was an earthquake, and pillars fell, and there were presidents all over the place.

Last night: I had a rainbow bracelet, that I thought was really cool. I went to sleep in the dream, and woke up in the dream freaking out because I lost it. I wasn't in my house though. I went out into the hallway, screamed my boyfriends name over and over outside his door. Then my parents come, and are like, "wtf?" and Im like, "I lost the bracelet!" And continue to scream.

would you like to see holidays instituted around the:

31st december/1st of january...
31st march/1st of april...
30th june/1st of july...
30th september/1st of october

to my mind, it would be nice to be able to have four exactly equidistant resting points [in the year] to give a logical/secular/rational structure to the experience of the passing of the year,[that incidentally is also synchronised with new year---ie exactly three months after new year we have april 1st holiday----exactly three months after which..we have july 1st holiday----exactly three months after which comes 1st october holiday...then full circle again with jan 1st-three months later.

most people like to divide tasks into halves and quarters, and i see no reason why we couldnt divide the year itself by four quarter points- but that also align with new years day.

i know the equinoxes and solstices are almost the same thing, but theyt are not aligned to our current ist jan new years day.................

I dont want to get people down so if your deeply in love an happier than ever, it might not be the best time to read this.

Ive been doin psychology for two years at school and having done a little bit of study on love and relationships its started to occur to me that love isnt as real as we make it.
If you think about it, love is jjust a an evolutionary solution to finding a good mate and making sure we go all the way and carry on our genes. When we find someone suitable our mind might release hormones and make positive associations with the person so that we spend more time with them and potentially reproduce. Or just so that we stay around the person we feel safest with so that we dont get hurt. again a survival factor.
So are we just victims of our evolved unconcious minds that are quite successfully ensuring the continuation of the human race?
Are we in love? or is it just a method of survival?

Quite a sad way to look at it, but it doesnt mean we cant enjoy it.

Agree or Disagree?

"How are men compensated when they are separated from their children against their will?
Oh that's right - they have to pay then too."-Bah Humbug
(I really liked his answer so I'm gonna be putting this in my question.) Men never get custody, they might get every other weekend, but really is that fair? We have to pay when we dont get custody, which I find a bit ironic. So feminist, what do you think of child custody in todays society?

is this normal????

2007-12-21 12:08:44 · 10 answers · asked by Anonymous in Psychology

Lets get this straight, once and for all. The vast majority of feminists do not hate men, quite the reverse. Obviously, there are aspects of our society and some men's behaviour (rape, domestic violence, etc) that women do not like and seek to change. The only feminist I ever heard of that said all men are potential rapists was Andrea Dworkin, but she was abused (by a man) as a child. This does not mean that all or even most feminists believe this.

I want to create a world where everyone is treated fairly, men and women, black, white and all shades in between, old, young, everyone. It really doesnt help when people insist on seeing an egalitarian movement like feminism in an inaccurate way.

For me, the answer lies around core sets of values that I have read in Feminist literature, which happen to sit well with a spiritual outlook. A quote from them is provided below.

What about you? If you support feminism, or for that matter masculinism - is there a core ideology that underpins your support? What motivates you?

Quote follows:

"The Earth is a living, conscious being. In company with cultures of many different times and places, we name these things as sacred: air, fire, water, and earth.

Whether we see them as the breath, energy, blood, and body of the Mother, or as the blessed gifts of a Creator, or as symbols of interconnected systems that sustain life, we know that nothing can live without them.

So i had a dream where i could start to feel blood in the back of my throat and suddenly vomited very bright red blood into a cup. It was very quick and clean and then i checked back on the cup to throw it out and clean it and all the blood evaporated.

Now some background: It's 7:30PM now, i went to bed at 4:00 PM because i havent slept. Last night i went to bed at midnight and had to wake up at 3:00 AM to do my thesis and had to stay up till i was home again. I did it all that day and i've handed it in so its all done. But i feel so exhausted right now.

Sooo lets have some answers to my question then :)

Does our conduct influence how long we live?

2007-12-21 11:39:48 · 6 answers · asked by Star T 7 in Psychology

Just curious? My mother's other child embezzled a lot of $$$ from me. She begged me not to prosecute him and to not send him to prison. Not once in 25 years have we spoken a single word to the other and since he hasn't tried to repay me nor apologize, I'm sure we'll go to our graves without speaking. I never think about "it" until the holidays and then everyone starts with a barrage of questions about "it". I can't stand it and I think it's very rude, especially in front of my daughter. The only other time I think about "it" is when my elderly mother gets sick. I dread the day of her death.

Anyhow, I was just wondering if you've had anything like this happen and what do you do about it?

Thanks & Happy Holidays

I am a really... shy... person, my confidence is low... I know it, everyone else knows it - I want to change, yet I can't?

This is how low my confidence is;

- I don't like playing my music loud, I use headphones.
- I don't like to have phone conversations in a room with other people around, I have to go upstairs or in a seperate room.
- I cannot chat to girls properly, I just lock up and get even quieter!
- When I go out, I have it in myhead that everyone is looking at me and laughing.
- I am interested in girls, I want a girlfriend- But my confidence is my limit.

I mean, I am not bad looking, I've been told I'm "hot" by various girls, and yet I have never had a girlfriend. Ever. I am 18. I have not had one, yet people who are not so attractive can get gjrlfriends... O_O; (That sounds bad, but it is just an observation)

Also: Online, I am not shy at all. Just in real life.

Females constantly wear low-cut dresses, then feign anger when a man looks. They want the privilege that the power of beauty gives, not the responsibility.
