yes, there is. We judge each other based on social class, and use the term "white trash" to generalize the certain low income, 3rd generation welfare people, or those who give all whites a bad name, like Britney Spears. There is also a sort of reverse prejudice against successful white men....my husband is a perfect example of this. Many times, despite his high achievements at work, he is passed over by women, minorities or disabled because of affirmative action type programs. He is a middle class, union technical worker, and does an excellent job at work. I work for a government agency, and he is an example of the kind of person we unofficially "don't" help...because its supposedly easier for a white guy than a white woman, or anyone else to get ahead. We will help anyone else, just not an educated white man.
Prejudice in any form is wrong. I wish the world didn't have these preconcieved notions.

Prejudice is based on ignorance! As long as people remain ignorant you will have prejudice which will cross every line that can be drawn. If someone breaks into your home and hurts your grandmother and you don't care to be around this individual that is not being prejudice that's good common sense. However if you don't care to be around someone because he/she is different from you that is based on being ignorant. If you don't have an intelligent reason not to care for the individual white, black, Jew, Christian, Arab, rich or poor and become aware of others that may be different then you and I prejudice will remain with us. If we stay in our little safe groups where everyone is like you and I you and I will never get to understand others and remain or become a prejudice individual. You will also find as you learn more about others and mingle with other people different then yourself that life will become a lot more interesting and enjoyable.

Definitley. It all starts with demographics. Were you live what you lifestyle is like that sort of stuff. Someone in a poor white community is always going to have prejudice againts those who are better off. I almost feel bad for posting a reply because this is such a good question that it cant be answered in a single post. I would definitly say there is pregudice among the white race as among any race. This sure is a topic that could spark a lot of debate and discussion.

I believe there is prejudice in all groups/communities! The white community is no exception. It appears to me that the prejudice within the "white" community is class or financial status related. I don't believe in lumping one group together because of their color, status, religion etc. so I can't say ALL rich or ALL poor but...some people with money look down upon those that don't as though they are second class never considering the circumstances that put them in that position. And...some people that are poor have an inherent attitude toward those that have money automatically assuming that someone handed them their fortune instead of recognizing that they may have worked very, very hard for it. Any kind of prejudice boils down to sad!

Oh definitely. Just like with other races, prejudice and discrimination effect everyone. Age, class, sex, and multiple other factors often come into play for discrimination within society's groups. And this is just something, I noticed, have you realized that in major motion pictures where the cast is primarily black, that the lead roles are usually consumed by light skinned black people....that irritates me...its as if they are saying darker black people are not beatiful or something!

Well in a way there is, but there isn't. It's kind of hard to explain, but ill do my best lol =). Like I guess there are different classes of people like the rich white people who think they are better than everyone but trust me, they are sooooo not. Then there are the ones who are just normal, actually raise their kids and dont have a nanny/housekeeper do all the work, and then there are the ones that go out and drink, smoke and just throw away their lives. Every race, every religion and like every culture i think has these same classes, dont u agree????

Although I am not white I believe there is prejudice or discrimination within the white community. Perhaps they discriminate against each other within classes (have and have nots) I have heard white people call other whites poor white trash because of where they live etc....They also discriminate against other whites whom they preceive are 'acting black'.

There is a significant level of prejudice in the white community as well. Like you said another factor in prejudice is class since Whites still hold the majority in population thus they still hold the majority of "the race" in welfare and gov't assistance Upper class citizens still look down on the lower classes who rely hevily on govt assistance also Ive never heard of a trailer park in the suburbs.. have you? There is still a high number of white Americans who are uneducated or considered illequiped to handle the advances in technology and workforce from blue collar industry to white collar business. Keep in mind slurs like "cracker" and "poor white trash" did not come from minorities. they originated from upper class whites looking down among lower class whites.

Of course there is! It affects Asians and Hispanics in much the same manner between family members. If you are talking about African-Americans and Native Americans, This phenomenon began when White Settlers came to the shores and during slavery in the Northern Hemisphere. This first stereotyping began for the purpose of divide and remain conquered. Lighter skinned relatives were often given preferential treatment, and believed to be smarter, prettier less likely to commit crimes, and more adaptable to "polite" society. The light skinned slaves had more market value as 'breeders" and often snubbed their darker kin even though they were all slaves. It still happens in our modern world. Most black Africans do not identify African Americans as their own.

There is all kinds of prejudice in the white community. Prejudice against Jews, Blacks, Asians, the rich, the poor, people who are different, people of other nationalities, people of other religions. Just name your favorite prejudice and you will find it quite alive in the white community. This is NOT to say, however, that all white people are prejudiced.
