Pretty big. Different entities measure things differently. Used to be 5th largest economy. Lately, it might have slipped to seventh or so. Doesn't sound so significant, but remember it's way beyond other major countries.

It depends on who is doing the ranking.

World FactBook ranks it at #10
California Legislative Analyst's Office ranks it at 8
California Department of Finance ranks it at 7

This is based on gross state product versus gross domestic product.
