Was it a mother or a sister or another female figure that did or said something horrible to you? If so, what was it?

That's kind of my point Johnny. I figure somewhere something personal and hurtful must have happened to SOME, but many chose not to talk about it and instead take it out on women they have never even met.

Jon, if I offended you in some way, please let me know, e-mail me. It certainly wasn't my intention. I hope you have a good day and don't let my question ruin it for you. It's just an honest question.

Same goes for hotdog. I'm not trying to divide anything. I'm just observing the abuse in this section and wondering why.

Arwen, "hate" is a bit strong. I believe it's foolish to hang the same label on every individual within a group. Some feminists are mature hippies, and have other redeeming qualities. Some younger feminists are capable people who impress me with their ability and smarts.
However, some feminists tend to be one-dimensional and a bit shrill. Like others who feel deeply about an issue, they tend to see everything in black-and-white. For example, either you're on the "melt every evil gun" HCI bandwagon, or you're on the "give a gun to every driver" NRA bandwagon.
Many feminists tend to see things as an anti-feminist conspiracy. Didn't get the promotion? Must be because the male bosses don't want to promote someone with feminist ideals.
And they've done things to the language that galls. I really hate to hear "waitperson" or "person-hole cover," as if "waitress" is demeaning to the person standing at your table or "man-hole cover is part of a huge male-oriented plot to disenfranchise women.
So, I don't hate feminists. But I do tend to close my mental ears when I hear propaganda, no matter which group is promoting it.
Hope I haven't offended your human ears. And I hope you have a great Christmas!
BTW, I'm recently divorced and have learned that there is a bit of inequity in family law. I remain bitter towards my ex-wife, but not towards every woman. I enjoy the qualities women have that make them different from men.

Can't say that I hate or like ALL feminists, as they are all different and I've had that label thrust on me anyway simply because I believe that women shouldn't bow down to men. Why can't a woman question that? I run into scorn every single time I question these things and it just proves to me that I'm expected to know my place. What gives someone else the right to determine my or another woman's place?
Have seen some who just want same consideration as men and not be seen just as inferior, but then I've seen some who honestly believe that all men are scum and can't wait until the Y chromosome dies out completely(amongst other issues which make no sense at all).
It's those ones who bring it down with their hatred and scorn for men and wanting to have the best of everything at mens expense which has given not only all Feminists a bad name, but ordinary women as well who just wish to be heard and just want common courtesy while extending it regardless of gender.
It's a no win situation nowadays, but I can still see that it's not over.

Why should somone hate feminists because of somone a female figure said or did ? Its like hating communism because of a man woman, or imperialism. It doesnt make any sense. Feminism is a marxist movement, not a person. It would be very irrational to hate a political movement because your car broke down or because of something somone said.

Just to put Bah Humbug right on a couple of issues.
Firstly, there's no need to rely on any feminist studies of domestic violence. Just check out Police Statistics. And another interesting statistic is that not only are women victims of men, so are other men!
Another point, what you hate is a VIEW of feminism, not the reality of feminism. I don't suppose you have ever read any actual feminist writings.
It may be of interest to you that the Sociology of Masculinity, which supports men and is critical of aspects of our society which disadvantage men (such as the expectations of men to be unemotional, hyper-sexual, and always focused 'on the ball') was actually triggered by (and is supported by many feminists) feminist theory. I am a feminist, and I think the Sociology of Masculinity is a wonderful thing. I want men to be free to be who they truly are (without harming anyone else) too.
In answer to the main question, it is the bias of the media which make people wilfully misunderstand feminism. This is a tragedy, because true equality (which is what feminism actually stands for) would benefit us all, men and women.

Dorian, nothing in your article points to feminism as the cuprit. Men would do well to fight, NOT FEMINISM, but the system that allows them to be financially and emotionally devastated in the courts.
Of course, the article did not mention the women who are emotionally and financially devastated because their husbands have walked out on them, but I guess that doesn't matter here.

I don't hate feminists at all. They're the better of the genders in my opinion. I mean look at what men do on a statistical basis.
Sorry to sound like a traitor but it's true.
They condone murder of children and men?
...?
That's news to me. This is way too political for me.
I'm outta here.

Why is it that feminists always think there was one bad incident to make men question feminist "logic"? This, in itself, demonstrates just how self-centered and illogical feminists truly are.
When will feminists see the obvious: Feminism = privilege without responsibility.
Feminists should be banned from US society. Men need not wait for Washington to legislate either. Men should "take matters into their own hands".
