I know that the temperatures stop falling at the freezing point because the energy of the heat of fusion must be taken away (the liquid must turn solid or vice versa) before the temperature falls again, but exactly why? also, howabout the melting point? the temperature stops rising there too, why?

2 years ago, Chicago was cold. Now it is pretty hot. It is on average 85 degrees in the summer and 40 degrees in the winter. Couple of years ago, the average temp. was 75 degrees in the summer and in the winter it was 20 degrees. How did that happen? What happened to cities you guys are in?

The Californian forest fires have caused considerable damage and misery to the people living in its vicinity.

If a house has a large compound that has no trees in it, will it be still protected from the fires? Can fires from the forest still leap towards the house and burn it down if it has a large garden to act as a buffer?

On a cold morning, when the sun was hot and the wind cold, I could see the shadow of my head steaming out!!
