My son asked this question. What would happen if 2 hurricanes collided? Let out that it probably couldn't happen and work in the hypothetical.

Today (July 30th) in Calgary, Alberta we had a blood red moon, it was really facinating, being almost full (full moon was yesterday). Trying to look up this phenomenon, I've discovered the most common cause of such a red moon to be a lunar eclipse. However the last lunar eclipse was in early March and the next isn't due until the end of August.

Since a lunar eclipse is not causing this brilliant red moon, what could it be? This moon is brilliant red at night (10 o'clock-12 o'clock) so it's not the sun shining over the horizon like it does in the early evening/morning.

As a teacher, I used a great online flash/shockwave activity to help children count the distance of a storm with lightning/thunder but I've lost the link... Maybe someone has the link?

I found out that on August 1st here in New York there is supposed to be a high of 86 and the humidity level will be 58 %. I have to be outside all day that day for an event and want to know if it will be horrible or nice with that level of humidity.

When there's a solar halo (a "glory" around the sun, or sunbow), I notice that the region between the ring and the sun looks darker than the rest of the sky. Even though it's closest to the sun!

When there's a double rainbow, I notice that the region between the two bows looks darker than the rest of the sky.

Can anyone explain the optics of this? What's going on...
