Lightning travels faster than the speed of sound, so it actually creates a sonic boom, which we hear as thunder. It is possible to be very far away from a storm and see lightning and have the thunder sound be so faint when it reaches you that you don't hear it, but a bolt of lightning will always produce the sonic boom.

it rather is named flash lights. Faint flashes of lightning on the horizon or different clouds from distant thunderstorms that don't have accompanying sounds of thunder. this occurs because of the fact the lightning happens very a great way away and the sound waves expend till now they attain the observer.

No, but it's possible to have lightning that is too far to hear its corresponding thunder. That is called heat lightning.

Whether you hear the thunder sound or not, lightning will always be followed by thunder. That is why "lightning followed by thunder" is always called as thunderstorm and not as lightningstorm.

It always makes a sound. Whether we hear it or not is another story.
It's like asking if a tree falls in the forrest and nobody is around does it make a sound.

many people will say no and in a way this is true. "Heat" lightning does not produce a sound that we hear. this is most likely because it's occuring at a higher altitude and the sound doesn't reach us.
