Since earth's orbit around the sun is elliptical, not circular, aren't there regular intervals when earth gets closer to the sun and therefore hotter? Of course, the same would apply to colder periods when earth is farthest from the sun.

that obstructs us from getting rain? We get thunderstorms from time to time, and rarely have a day or two event of rain, but it has not rained here significantly in many years. We are always under drought and water restrictions. Why can't we get a steady rain for a week or so?

Would it be possible to run into the path of a small tornado, F2/F3, let it pick you up, spit you out, and as it spits you out you release your parachute and float safely to the ground? Provided you'd probably also have an oxygen mask just in case you get carried above 5000ft.

Logic would have it that air travels all over, right along with the clouds & the rain: but what about smog, etc.? And why would one place be reputed to have "fresh air" over another place?

I made an experiment that involves measuring the volume of the gas formed but I forgot to write down the temperature and the air pressure. The temperature in the room is nearly always the same but the airpressure I can only guess by the meteorology data for the day.So I'm wondering if the pressure outside for that time of day was 1026hPa then could it have been significantly different in the lab room which is not airthight sealed and is 2 storeys off the ground.

I hate it when meterologists talk about the long drought we have been having, and when we finally get rain, they call it the "bad stuff" and can't wait for it to end.
